Chapter 3
"Jill! Where the hell were you? My shift is already over!" Dawn scolded lightly, her black hair drifting in front of her face.
Jill scowled at Jeff. "He didn’t feel well so we had to pull over for a God damned hour!" Jeff gave her an impish grin and waved down the bartender.
"I would say you guys did a little more than ‘pull over’," Dawn whispered to her friend. "It is almost 12:00…"
Jill’s mouth dropped and she looked at Dawn with her hands on her hips. "And what, may I ask, does that mean?"
Dawn giggled madly and looked at Matt and Jeff who were leaning against the bar talking, taking quick looks at them. "You and Jeff… you know…"
"No… I don’t know…"
"You guys have some serious ‘fuck me’ vibes going on there." Dawn gestured toward the blonde brother who was sipping on a Daiquiri.
Jill’s eyes went wide. "Eww! Gross! I don’t think so, that’s gross! We are just friends!"
Dawn nodded knowingly. "Sure, whatever you say."
"WE ARE!"
Jeff and Matt turned to look at her with confused eyes. "Whoa, take a chill pill…" Matt said looking up and down at the steamy rainbow haired lovely.
Dawn turned away from Jill mumbling under her breath, "Yeah, and face reality."
Jill, Dawn, Matt and Jeff all sat around a table in the corner, drinking and laughing at jokes that weren’t even that funny.
"How do I, get through one night without you…" Jill’s ears perked up and she giggled madly in her drunken state before grabbing Jeff’s hand.
"Dance with me…" Her words were slurred a bit, but Jeff wasn’t much better and didn’t seem to notice.
"If I had to live without you, what kind of life would that be... Oh I, I need you in my arms need you to hold, you’re my world my heart my soul, if you ever leave, baby it would take away everything good in my life…"
Jeff and Jill swayed as they listened to Leeanne Rimes sing them one of their favorite songs.
"I think this song resembles their union." Dawn laughed.
Matt did too. "I agree, I’ve tried to tell them they have the hotts for each other…"
"And tell me now… how do I live without you… I want to know… how do I breathe without you, if you ever go, how do I ever… ever survive…. How do I, how do I, oh how do I live…"
Jill clung to Jeff’s shoulders, leaning her head on his shoulder and sighing. Jeff wrapped his arms around her waist tighter as the next verse started up.
"Without you… there’d be no sun in my sky there would be no love in my life… there’d be no world left for me. And I, baby I don’t know what I would do… I’d be lost if I lost you…"
Jeff whispered the words in her ear and she looked up at him with bright eyes. Jill pressed her body close to his and put her head back on his shoulder and resumed dancing.
"If you ever leave, baby it would take away everything real in my life… and tell me now, how do I live without you… I want to know, how do I breathe without you, if you ever go… how do I ever… ever survive… how do I, how do I, oh how do I live… Please tell me baby…"
Jill gasped a bit as Jeff’s grip around her waist tightened, but turned her head her face was pressed into Jeff’s neck, blowing gently.
"How do I go… Oh if you ever leave… baby it would take away everything need you with me, baby don’t you know that you’re everything good in my life… and tell me now, how do I live without you, I want to know, how do I breathe without you, if you ever go, how do I ever, ever survive… How do I, how do, I, oh how do I…"
Jill sighed softly hearing the last few words, and broke apart from Jeff as the song ended.
He looked down at her with shimmering eyes.
"I… I think I should go home… I have work in the morning."
Jeff’s face sunk. "Oh…"
Jill and Jeff walked back to the table and Jill grabbed her coat. "I think I’m going to head home…"
Matt and Dawn laughed. "You are going to drive yourself home? You are starting to resemble plaster you’re so drunk!"
"We could build a house with you!" Dawn laughed along with Matt.
"I’ll have you know, I’m just a bit tipsy!"
"Of course you are…" Matt looked up at Jeff then at his watch. "Shit, it’s 2 AM, we better be getting home too."
"Me too," Dawn looked at her watch.
Jill glowered. "I’m fine, I can drive!"
"Jill," Matt warned. "We can’t even understand you…"
Jill put on a pouty face and sat down on the end of the bench. She glared around and caught Jeff’s eyes and both immediately shifted their gaze. Jill furrowed her eyebrows… ‘What was that?’ she asked herself as Dawn and Matt decided a way to get the drunken friends home.
"I’ll drive them home cause Jill just lives down the street."
Dawn nodded and grabbed her keys, hesitating. "Um… she is a little… really drunk, maybe you should bring her back to your house to make sure if she pukes she doesn’t… you know, die."
Matt nodded. "Never thought of that, okay. So, I’m gonna drive Jill’s car and you have your own right?"
Dawn nodded. "See you later guys, I have to talk to Jenna." She smiled at Matt who returned the favor and grabbed his coat.
"Whoa, who wrapped you guys in a wet towel?" Matt asked noting the mood change in his friends who seemed nervous and edgy.
Jeff gave Matt a slight smile and got up grabbing his coat. "I don’t know. I’ll be in the car."
Jeff walked out the front door as Jill got up and grabbed the table for support.
"Whoa…" Matt grabbed her waist. "I gotcha, ready to go?"
Jill nodded and leaned heavily on Matt as they made their way out to the car. They pulled out of the club and headed down the road toward Cameron, a good hour and a half drive. Before Matt even pulled out onto the interstate Jill and Jeff had passed out in each other’s laps.
