Chapter 19
Once Matt returned to the room he stared at the letter on his bed, and started to swear. He left not saying goodbye or anything to any of them. He just stormed out.
Jeff looked at Jay and Adam and sighed as he went over to Matt’s bed and took the envelope.
Jeff returned to the couch and opened the letter and unfolded it as he glanced at the anxious faces of his two other friends awaiting to here what it said and to know why Matt had left the way he had. Jeff sighed and cleared his throat as he looked down at the paper and began to read it out loud.
“Matt,” Jeff said as he paused. “I canceled some important things I had to do so I could come and talk to you. I flew all the way here to Vegas! Please meet me in The Mirage Casino lobby, its very important that we talk! Lita.”
Jeff sighed and put the note back into the envelope and set it on the side table by the couch.
“Wow!” Jay said standing.
“Dude Matt’s gonna be pissed if he has to see Lita! He hasn’t seen her in a long time right Jeff?” Adam asked looking at Jeff who suddenly looked disturbed by what he had asked.
All Jeff could do was shake his head. None of them had long to think about it, the phone rang then. They all looked at each other.
“Should I get it?” Jeff asking looking wide at his friends.
They both shrugged. Jeff took a breath and went over and sat on the edge of his bed and grabbed the phone and pressed talk.
“Hello?” Jeff asked as he looked over at Jay and Adam who both stared looking curiously back at him.
“Jeff?” A woman’s voice asked. Jeff recognized Lita’s voice instantly.
“Yeah.” Jeff said flatly.
“Jeff!” Lita said her voice raised some and she paused taking a breath, “Where the hell is Matt?” Jeff closed his eyes.
“He’s not here.” Jeff said sensing the anger in her tone when she spoke again.
“Is he coming to meet me? Did he get my letter or is he on some other date?!” She asked furiously.
Jeff didn’t know what to say, so he told her what he did know. “Lita, all I know is that Matt got your letter and he stormed out! I dunno if it was to go meet you, but I do know that if he did have another date, it would be any of your business. Lita, Matt’s my best friends and I don’t want him to be hurt by you any more then you already hurt him!” Jeff said wearily letting out some of his own frustrations on her.
Lita didn’t answer for a moment and then charged back saying, “Jeff I don’t know what Matt told you, but I didn’t purposely try to hurt him!”
Jeff interrupted her then anger had made him question what he was going to say to her but it didn’t matter it had to be said. “So Matt walking in on you cheating on him wasn’t something you deliberate!? I mean God, Lita sleeping with some guy and then trying to act like it doesn’t take two people to cheat is the worst thing you could have done! Whether you purposely tried to hurt him or not, Lita in not meaning to you hurt Matt more then you know! I honestly hope you don’t expect for him to come crawling back to you! God help you if you do, he doesn’t need you, he needs someone who’s gonna be faithful to him for always! Not cheat on him behind his back!” Jeff said wearier now then he was before and very angry. Then he decide he had to add one more thing, “Lita you were my friend for a very long time, and I never would have wanted any of our relationships to end like this, but honestly maybe its better this way. Matt needs to move on and so do you, work can be figured out by Vince McMahon, just please.... leave Matt alone, let him move on!” Jeff said pleading with her.
For a moment Jeff wasn’t sure if Lita was still there until he heard loud laughing in the background. Jeff looked over at Jay and Adam who hadn’t taken there eyes off of him the whole while he had been talking vehemently to Lita.
“Jeff, maybe....” Lita said as she paused. “Maybe your right,” She took a deep breath and continued. “Matt does deserve better, I’m sorry for everything that had to be spoiled through this whole thing...sorry...” Jeff listened and was concerned when he didn’t hear her voice and he realized that she had hung up.
He sighed, knowing Matt would be furious when he told him what had happened and what he had said to her. He shook his head and hung up.
Jay and Adam came over and they talked for a while.
A few minutes later Jay and Adam decided they should get going and told Jeff that they were gonna go clubbing again tonight and that he and Matt could come with them if they felt like it. Jeff shook his head and said he’d ask Matt and let them know later. They left.
Jeff sat on the couch and stared at that damned letter. He sighed and laid back on the couch wishing he could take back some of the things he had said to Lita. He closed his eyes and was surprised at how tired he himself was, before he knew it was asleep. His head hurt a lot.
