Chapter 3

Matt wasn’t to be left alone with his thoughts for long, not a second had gone by after Jessica disappeared into the crowd when Jeff was standing infront of Matt.

Matt smiled. “Hi Jeff,” Matt said turning to order himself a drink.

Jeff came and stood next to him, staring at him. Matt wasn’t looking at him, but he could feel Jeff’s eyes on him.

Matt turned and looked at Jeff. “What?” Matt asked looking at his friend who looked like he’d just seen a ghost.

“Do you know who that was?” Jeff asked staring at Matt who was looking back at him very confused by his question.

Matt started to open his mouth to tell Jeff that, that was the girl of his dreams, but Jeff broke in interrupting him.

“Thats Jessica! Jessica Tyler!” As Jeff spoke those words, Matt felt as if he was going to faint.

No! Ohh God, Matt thought staring at Jeff. “No it can’t be” Matt thought horrified! “Jessica Tyler had been a girl that Jeff had been really into in college. He had gone to Las Vegas University. Jeff had the biggest crush on her. I can see why. I mean he was totally into her, crazy about her that was all he had ever talked about. At least when I meet him Junior year of college. I had never met her just heard everything about her. When he finally got to be with her she just used him. They had been friends before they had dated, but their friendship had been severed when Jessica used him to get closer to one of Jeff’s other friends. It had taken Jeff a long time to get over her.”

Matt stared at Jeff. Matt couldn’t believe it. Matt could see the pain and the remembrance of those days with her in his eyes. He felt horrible suddenly.

Matt began to speak, “Jeff, man I didn’t know....”

Jeff shook his head, and Matt stopped talking, Matt just stared at his best friend. Jeff’s silence was driving Matt nuts.

“Jeff, I’m sorry... I won’t,” Jeff interrupted him then.

“No, I told you to come out with us to get your mind off of Lita,” Jeff took a deep breath, “I’m happy honest! I’m sorry I reacted like I did just now. You two would look really good together,” Jeff paused, “You gonna come dance with us, Adam’s calmer now.” Jeff asked, glancing down.

Matt still felt so bad.

“Yeah, Jeff I’ll come.” Jeff turned and started leaving, Matt followed.

They meet Jay and Adam on the dance floor and started to dance with them. Jay was checking out some cute girls near him, then he turned and started dancing with one of them. Adam was just sorta looking around, he looked more sober now then he had earlier. Jeff was dancing again next to that red head. Matt looked at him feeling guilty. Matt leaned over toward Jeff. Jeff looked up at him,

Matt spoke, “Jeff man I mean it, I’m really sorry, I didn’t know about that being the same Jessica, I feel horrible.”

Jeff stared at Matt a second and then said something to the red head and motioned Matt back towards the table they had sat at before.

Matt and Jeff were sitting at the table silently. Then Jeff spoke, “Matt I’m not mad at you, we’ve been friends a long time, we’ve been through hell together and you’re someone who I have the best times with, you’re that friend everyone has that makes them glad they have friends. You know what I mean, I can’t let some girl from my past, that I wasn’t good enough for, stop you from finally being happy with someone. I just,” Jeff paused, “I don’t want her to end up hurting you, being used by someone who you think likes you doesn’t feel too great. I’m sorry I acted like such an ass, I shouldn’t have gotten upset the way I had. I think you should go for it, I was watching. She looks at you the way a guy can only dream to be looked at by someone. Matt, Lita never looked at you like that, Jessica does! Matt Jessica looks at you like I wish she had looked at me, but you know this red head over here,” Jeff said motioning with his head out towards the dance floor, “she’s been looking at me in such a sexy way all night that I think I might get her number, you know see if anything happens. Matt, man I suggest you do the same thing with Jessica, honest to God Matt I’m not mad at you, I just don’t want her to hurt you, sorry dude.”

Matt was staring at Jeff who sat back and looked at him.

“Jeff, any girl would do anything to be near you, you know that, girls are screaming your name every night at work, they love you! You could have any one of them if you wanted to,” Matt watched as Jeff smiled chuckling, “Jeff you’re good enough for anybody. Don’t let one girl who just wasn’t right for you make you think any differently. Now you have me wondering if Jessica is the reason I’ve never seen you in a relationship that ever lasted longer then a few months. Jeff it’s like you tell me, you said ‘Matt you gotta move on and get over Lita,’ you told me ‘she doesn’t deserve you, she’s not good enough for you’. Well as much as I am attracted to Jessica, Jeff dude, all this time... you can’t go on letting your bad relationship with one girl make you think that no one is capable of thinking your a great guy. Because you are. Any girl, can see that! Come on man, get over her!” Matt said softly.

Jeff smiled. “Matt please tell me I don’t sound that corny!?” Jeff asked smiling.

Matt laughed. “Well then I won’t tell you!”

Jeff laughed. “Thanks man,” Jeff said slapping Matt’s hand. Matt shook his head.

“Don’t mention it Jeff,” Matt paused, “I think you should go and take the red head and go back to the hotel!”

Jeff laughed. Matt watched as Jeff looked back to the dance floor where he had left the girl. She was watching him. Jeff smiled at her and looked back to Matt.

“You know maybe I should,” Jeff stood, Matt watched as he took a deep breathe, “knock first when come back to the hotel okay? Your gonna be able to get a ride back aren’t you?” Jeff asked as Matt looked at him and began to laugh, making Jeff laugh at himself.

Matt reassured Jeff that he’d be fine, and told him to have a good time. Matt stayed at the table until Jeff and the red head disappeared from the club.

As Matt sat there he looked out towards the dance floor and Jessica who was dancing with her friends caught his attention. She was so sexy. God, how ironic it is that this girl could be the same one who hurt Jeff so bad. But still Matt couldn’t help being totally attracted to her.

How could he? Matt continued watching her for a long time. Then Jay and Adam came back to the table and they all stared talking, Matt had to explain where Jeff had gone.

“Ohh man, dude, so like Jeff’s getting his groove on back at the hotel with that cute chick that he was hanging out with?” Jay asked laughing hysterically. It was sorta funny.

“Yo Jeff is da man! Damn, good for him!” Jay said when he finally had stopped laughing long enough to talk.

“Yeah Jay basically that what he’s doing. I’m happy for him,” Matt said staring across the dance floor again at Jessica.

Adam spoke then. “Guys, check this chick out right behind Jay! She’s damn hot, yo Jay the other girl she’s with is pretty good looking to, you wanna go in for the kill?” Adam asked as Matt and Jay turned to check out the girls.

Jay turned around looked for about 5 seconds and then looked back to Adam with a huge smile on his face. “Let’s do this man!” Jay said patting Matt’s arm, and sliding his sunglasses back onto his face. Jay and Adam got up and left Matt alone again. Matt took this as an opportunity to watch Jessica again.
