Chapter 9
Matt had done nothing all day, mostly hung around with his usual group of friends. Matt and Jeff had talked a little more about Jessica. Matt made Jeff tell him all about her. It seemed to Matt that Jeff didn’t have a problem talking about her. Although Matt was sure it brought back unwanted memories for him. Matt told Jeff about Jessica’s friends. Matt had been talking with one of them for a little while he was dancing with the girls. He decided to try and fix Jeff up with Kelly, seeing as she was cute, and single and had come up to the bar when Matt was talking to Jessica.
Kelly was shorter then Jessica but she was pretty as well. Matt was sure Jeff would like her. Kelly had blond hair like Jessica’s but shorter and not as wavy. Her eyes were greenish and she was a really good dancer, which would make Jeff happy, because he loved to dance.
Matt started telling Jeff about her as they were playing darts. Jeff seemed interested to meet her. Matt hoped he could introduce Jeff to someone to get his mind off of the fact that he was with Jessica rather then Jeff. Matt honestly thought that Kelly would be perfect for his good friend. Matt’s hope was that Kelly could hopefully make Jeff forget about his feeling over Jessica.
Around 5 Matt left Jeff and the guys playing basketball to go and get ready for Jessica to come over. He got to his room and took a quick shower. Then he tried to clean up the room, shoving the clothes that were lying all over the floor into Jeff’s closet since they were mostly his. He went into the kitchen and grabbed a couple of candles from the drawer, and some matches. He went back into the main room and went to work building a fire in the fireplace. He lit the candles and set them on end tables and above the mantle of the fireplace, trying to set the mood. He went to the stereo and flipped through channels trying to find some slow, soft, romantic music. When that was accomplished he went to his closet looking for something to wear. It was around 5:30 when the door to the room opened. Matt turned and saw Jeff walk in.
“Hey!” Jeff said out of breath, as he leaned against the wall as he looked at Matt who was standing in front of his closet wearing his boxers.
“What are you doing back?” Matt asked glancing again at the clock.
“I’m just gonna get something to drink and change really quick and then I’ll be gone,” Jeff said looking around. “Hey this is nice!” He said chuckling.
Matt grumbled. “Thanks,” Matt said as he watched as Jeff grabbed a shirt out of his closet, closing the door as he went into the bathroom.
When Jeff returned from the bathroom, he saw Matt still rummaging through his closet.
“What’s wrong?” Jeff asked as he came and stood next to Matt.
“I dunno what to wear!” Matt said impatiently knowing Jessica would be here soon.
Jeff chuckled. “Let me help you okay, and then I’ll leave.”
Matt smiled at him, “Thanks Jeff, but hurry!”
Jeff joked, “I dunno if that’s possible, you need a lot of help!” Jeff said laughing. Matt elbowed him.
It took Jeff only about 5 minutes to pick out the perfect outfit for Matt. He waited by the door as Matt went to get dressed.
“How do I look?” Matt asked coming to the door where Jeff was leaning against the wall, waiting so he could leave. Jeff looked up at his friend Matt who stood in front of him wearing a long sleeved white silk shirt and black dress pants, and black shoes. His long semi curly hair was back up in a secure ponytail, and he had a huge smiled on his face. Jeff smiled; he had to admit Matt looked really good,
Jessica would be impressed for sure.
“Wow man, Matt dude you look like a new man!” Jeff chuckled. “You look good man. Jessica will like it!” Jeff said standing as he walked towards Matt and fixed his collar.
“Thanks,” Matt said softly, obviously nervous.
“Hey Matt, stay cool, ok bro, just be yourself, you know she’s gotta like you or else she wouldn’t be coming over. I’m gonna go, good luck, I hope you have a good time,” Jeff said softly, slapping Matt five.
“Thanks for the help Jeff and the pep talk! And thanks for not minding about the room.”
“No problem!” Jeff said playfully hugging him. “I’ll see ya later okay Matt?” Jeff said grinning at Matt.
“Yeah thanks again Jeff, now get the hell out of here!” Matt said jokingly. Jeff laughed and glanced back at Matt once he had the door opened.
“Good Luck Matt, have a good time, later!”
“Thanks. Bye,” Matt said softly as Jeff left shutting the door on his way out.
Matt sighed and went and sat on the edge of his bed trying to chill out. Matt sat there for several minutes and then went to turn the lights off.
The room became dim and Matt waited while his eyes adjusted to the dimness. He listened to the soft music trying to stay calm. It didn’t last long. Just then the doorbell rang. Matt took a deep breath and went to answer the door.
