Chapter 1

I twisted the phone cord in one finger as I listened to what Elizabeth was about to say.

“You know, I heard that WWF is coming here in two days,” she said. I cocked an eyebrow, although I knew she couldn’t see me.

“So?” I prodded.

There was disbelief in her voice. “That’s all you can say—so?” she exclaimed. “Girlfriend, we’re going to see the WWF superstars in the flesh! Aren’t you excited? Who knows, maybe we’ll get to see those cute Hardy Boyz and Edge & Christian, not forgetting the most electrifying man in sports entertainment…”

“The Rock, I know, I know,” I said exasperatedly. My friend Elizabeth was the one who actually got me into watching wrestling very recently. And I did know The Rock. He’s a world-famous wrestler. But I didn’t really have time to watch between job hunting and moving in to my new place. I had no idea which one of the tag teams in WWF was The Hardyz, since I never bothered to ask.

“Ann, are you just gonna sit there? This is the opportunity of a lifetime! Why not I buy tickets for us to see the show on Monday?” she suggested. I sighed.

“I don’t know, Liz,” I replied. “I’m not even into wrestling—and I’m still looking for a job. I don’t find the idea of standing in along line for hours just to buy a ticket.”

“Oh, come on,” she coaxed. “It’ll be fun, I promise. And besides, you are looking for a job, right? So why not try your luck in the WWF? They might have a vacancy or something.”

I sighed. “OK, I guess I’ve nothing else in mind to do this Monday night.”

“Great!” Elizabeth exclaimed happily—a little too happily. I instinctively knew something was up.

“There’s something you’re not telling me,” I said a bit tightly. It wasn’t like Elizabeth to be so secretive. I could hear her giggle at the other end of the line.

“You’re right,” she said after a few moments. “You don’t have to worry about waiting in a long line to buy the tickets,” she explained. I didn’t know what she was getting at.

“And why is that?” I asked, getting a slight sinking feeling.

She giggled. “Because I’ve already bought it three days earlier, silly. Do you know that the tickets have already been sold out yesterday?”
