Chapter 2
Two days later, I was getting ready to go to the arena. I was waiting for Elizabeth to arrive as I put on the last touches of my makeup (I don’t put a lot). A few minutes later, I heard a honk downstairs. I ran to the window and yelled, “I’ll be right down!”
When I hopped in on the passenger seat, she grinned at me. “You look fab!” she said.
I blushed slightly. “Don’t flatter yourself, Gibbs,” I said sarcastically.
“No, really, you look great,” she insisted. I smiled as a thank you and complemented her too. Elizabeth stepped on the gas pedal, and we were off to the arena just in downtown Cameron.
When we arrived, there were already a lot of people. Elizabeth hadn’t told me that she had reserved front seats by the ringside for the both of us until I saw that when we flashed our tickets, the guards led us away from the crowd to inside the half-filled arena and led us to our seats. I was surprised and gave her a dirty, amused look.
She shrugged with a grin. “I want to see the wrestlers close-up, you know,” she said nonchalantly. I shook my head mildly as we waited for the arena to fill up and the show to begin. Finally, it did and, before everyone, including myself, knew it, it was over. I saw many superstars in action, although I didn’t really know most of them by name yet. And the crowd was so upbeat, I almost had to cover my ears for the rest of the show. But I survived.
I got home by eleven-thirty and was pooped. As I was getting ready for bed, the phone rang. I walked like a zombie and picked up the receiver. “Yeah?”
“I just wanted to ask you one question—what did you think of the show?” Elizabeth.
“Wanna know what I think? It’s explosive but loud,” I made sure to emphasize the word ‘loud’.
“But you can’t deny that the superstars were great, weren’t they?”
I sighed. “Yeah,” I admitted. “I gotta go I still have to look for a job tomorrow, remember?”
“OK. I’ll see you around. Goodnight,” Elizabeth said tiredly. I hung up.
