Chapter 1
(1) "I called you all here today to introduce you to someone that will joining the WWF team of scriptwriters." Vince McMahon announced to all that sat in his office around a large oval table. It was a hot day in the beginning of July, as we sat there in the un air-conditioned room. I day dreamed, looking out the window at the blazing heat that was rising from the black macadam streets of Dallas Texas. I had joined them while they were in the middle of one of their seventeen day loops of live events. "Excuse me, Miss Taylor?" I tuned back in at the mention of my name.
"Yes?" I asked, blinking behind my wire framed glasses, and shifting nervously in my tan button-down suit.
"Would you care to introduce yourself?" Vince asked, calmly.
"Yes." I stood nervously straightening my outfit. I took a deep breath and looked around at the faces that appeared before me. "My name is Maria Taylor and I am very happy to be joining the WWF team of writers and I hope to bring some new ideas to the show and hope to have a great time here with everyone." I stated rather quietly. "Thank you." I ended my little speech quickly and sat myself down.
"Thank you Miss Taylor, we are very happy to have you." Vince nodded at me with a smile. I smiled back and breathed a sigh of relief. I hated talking in front of people, but I handled the situation pretty well, I thought to myself. I then returned to looking out at the streets of Dallas. What would this new job bring me, it was just by chance that I had gotten here. It was exciting, I had to admit. I had watched WWF since I was fifteen years old, and now I would be involved with it. Most of the superstars were still there, and I would now get to meet and probably become friends with all of them.
"Okay everyone, thank you for attending this meeting, I have a press conference to get to, so I’ll see you all later, take a break and get some rest, maybe take a dip in the pool." Vince told us all as we stood to leave. There was a slight chuckle at his little joke. I gathered my purse and binder, which I always carried and started towards my hotel room that was on the floor above. "Oh, Miss Taylor, one more thing, if it would be possible, I would like to see one of your written ideas by tomorrow morning?" Vince asked, before I left the room.
I turned, "of course Mr. McMahon." I said, sort of stunned at his request.
"Thank you, oh, and Miss Taylor, calm down, you seem a little nervous." he said with concerned tone.
"I am, its not every day I get a call from Mr. McMahon saying that I am wanted to write script for WWF!" I smiled with excited ness. He laughed lightly at my response and shushed me out of the room. I then headed back to my hotel room. As I was fumbling through my purse to find my hotel “credit card” key, a man came up to the hotel room next to mine. I glanced over at him, then back again, doing a double take. It was Jeff Hardy. He was going through his pockets looking for his key also.
"Hey, Matt, are ya in there? I can’t find my key." Jeff asked, talking to the door.
"Comin." I heard Matt’s muffled southern drawl. I just stood and stared as Matt came and opened the door. "Oh, by the way, your key is right here." Matt said, holding it up. Just then the two of them looked over at me, as they sensed my stare. I quickly turned away, embarrassed, and hurriedly shoved the key in the door and opened it as fast as I could. I closed the door behind myself and breathed a sigh of relief.
"Hey, Gabriel, where are ya boy?" I asked, looking around for my 180-lb male Rottweiler. I walked into the bedroom and there he was lying on the rumbled sheets. He picked his head up and got down from the bed and came to greet me. "Hey, how’s my prince, hot in here right?" I asked, as I saw his uncomfortable panting. The sweat was starting to run off of me as well. I kicked off my heeled sandals and went to the windows and opened them wide. The hot Texas air came through with a breeze. I also turned on the fan and began stripping of my unbearable suit. I then dressed in blue jean Capri pants, a white tank top and long sleeved button down shirt, which I left open to let the airflow through, and I put sandals on my feet. I fixed my hair with a butterfly clip and tucked the loose ends behind my ears. Much cooler, I thought to myself. "Well, Gabriel, you’ve been cooped up in here all morning, what do you say we go take a walk and stretch your legs?" I asked, rubbing his fuzzy ears. He seemed to agree with me so I hooked up his leash and we headed for the elevators. As we were waiting for the elevator to arrive, from behind me I heard the sound of a door opening. I turned subconsciously to see who it was. Jeff was leaving his room again. I turned back around and faced the closed elevator doors. "It’s coming, Gabe, just a few more minutes." I said to him, patting his head, as he sat next to me.
"Excuse me, I just wanted to tell you that you have a beautiful dog." I heard Jeff from behind me.
I turned in surprise, "thank you, his name is Gabriel." I told Jeff.
"You’re staying next door to us, aren’t you?" he asked, remembering me from before.
"Yes, actually I am." I said, with a slight blush.
"I’m Jeff Hardy." he said, extending his hand towards me.
" Maria Taylor." I said, shaking his large hand.
"Are you working for the WWF now?" he asked curiously.
"Yes, I am, I’m on the team of scriptwriters." I told him with a smile.
"Oh, I thought you were a new woman’s wrestler." Jeff said, with a surprised tone.
"Hehe, I wish." I said, with a slight laugh. Finally the elevator came with its "ding." The three of us stepped onto it and the doors closed. "So, are you heading down or up?" I asked, standing next to the control panel of buttons.
"Down, first floor." he said, leaning against the mirrored wall, with his hands in the pockets of his leopard printed pants.
"Good, we’re heading to the same place." I said pushing the button. We rode down the elevator in silence, expect for the loud panting of Gabe. We reached the bottom floor and stepped out into the main lobby of the hotel.
"It was nice meeting you Maria, see you around." Jeff said over his shoulder as he headed the other direction.
"Bye Jeff." I said with a little wave. "Okay, Gabe, lets get outside for a nice walk." I said, taking his leash tighter as we headed out the glass doors of the Hyatt. The breeze was beautiful, even though it was hot. We headed down the streets of downtown Dallas. They were packed with bustling shoppers, carrying armfuls of shopping bags. Businessmen carried briefcases and talked on their cellular phones. It was a gorgeous day; the sun shone brightly glinting on the mirrored buildings. Overhead large fluffy clouds floated, making the day seem light and airy. I took a deep breath breathing in the lovely air and sighed with relief, the meeting had gone well, and now I was apart of them.
