Chapter 17

On the plane ride I sat next to Amy and looked out through my window, watching the clouds swirl by. It was beautiful flying back across the country. I had been lost in thought when Amy tapped me on the shoulder.

"Maria, can I talk with you about something?" She asked hesitantly, running her fingers through her fiery red hair.

"Sure, is there something wrong?" I asked, taking off my wire rimmed glasses and setting them down on the flip down tray that was attached to the seat in front of me.

"I wanted to talk with you about Jeff..." her voice trailed off uneasily.

"Go on," I said, smiling on the inside, thinking she would probably tell me the same thing that Jeff had.

"Something happened between Jeff and I the other night while we were dancing. It was like I saw him in a new light. I felt as if we were more than just friends dancing there. It's hard to explain, but I think I'm infatuated with him. I've known Jeff for so long, and he and Matt have been like big brothers to me, but now that relationship is starting to change." She said, her hazel eyes brightening.

She had never opened up to me like this, but it felt good to know that I was the one she was coming trusting to talk about these sorts of things.

"What are you going to do about it? Are you going to tell him?" I asked suddenly.

"Well, that's what I was gearing up to ask you, do you think I should tell him about this, or do you think its just a silly little crush?" She then lowered her voice, so Matt and Jeff wouldn't hear us from where we sat in front of them.

"Definitely, tell him. One night the two of us were talking and he told me one thing I'll never forget, don't let it slip away because you might never be able to experience it again." I whispered back.

"Really? He said that?" She asked, wide eyed.

"Yes he did, and I think you two would be perfect for each other, Jeff is wonderful, and you never know he might like you back." I said, trying to keep as straight faced as possible.

"I don't know, well maybe." She said, almost to herself.

"Don't worry about it, something will happen when the time is right." I told her, looking back out my window at the clouds that were flying by us.

"Maria, thank you for talking with me about this, I feel a lot better." Amy said with a smile.
