Chapter 19
"So, where are we headed again?" I asked from the passenger side of the Jeep Grand Cherokee that Matt and Jeff had rented when we arrived at the Releigh/Durham airport.
"We are going to visit our dad. He lives in an hour away from here. He will be surprised to see us, we are making an un-announced visit." Matt said, from behind the steering wheel.
"Maybe Gabriel will get along with Liger?" Jeff said from behind Matt, also petting Gabe's head who was sitting in the back behind the second set of seats. Jeff was referring to his dog, a boxer.
"Hopefully, what do we do if they hate each other?" I joked.
"I don't know..." Jeff voice trailed off.
"Hey turn the radio up, I love this song." Amy spoke up from her seat behind me.
"This song, oh please, how can you listen to this?" Matt commented on Alanna Myles' "Black Velvet."
"This is a great song, come on Amy, I'll sing it with you." I said, turning up the volume, swatting Matt's hand, as he reached down to try and lower it.
"Black velvet and that little boy smile, black velvet and that slow southern style, a new religion that will bring ya to your knees, black velvet if you please." We belted in unison, as Matt, complained, moaning, "noooo make it stop."
"Come on Jeff sing it, I know you know the words." Amy teased Jeff with a sweet smile.
He joined in, smiling back.
"Man, not you too, what is wrong with all of you, there is no better band than Pearl Jam." Matt stated, as we all joined in, in saying Pearl Jam.
"Yes, Matthew we know you're obsessed, its okay." I patted his arm in a sarcastic tone.
"Hey, now here we go, Black, by Pearl Jam, listen to these lyrics, very deep and methodic." Matt said, finding a station on the radio that happened to be playing a Pearl Jam tune.
("Sheets of empty canvas, under sheets of clay, her legs spread out before me, as her body once did. all of the horizons, revolved around the sun. Now the air Iā tasted and breathed has taken a turn. And all I taught her was everything. I know she gave me, that she wore. And now my bitter hands, are shade beneath the clouds, oh what was everything. All the pictures that have all been washed in black, tattooed everything...") The lyrics belted over the car radio as Matt drummed along on the steering wheel.
"I love Pearl Jam Matt, don't get me wrong, but this song doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me." I said, after hearing a few lines of it.
"You're just listening to it differently, you have to read between the lines, its very deep." Matt said with a serious tone.
"Matt you crack me up." I laughed. The others joined in.
