Chapter 24
Just then, Jeff came out of his room to see where Matt had gone in such a rush,
"Matt what is wrong with..." His voice trailed off as he saw Matt and I kissing quite passionately in front of my open motel room.
Matt waved Jeff away with his free hand, as if to say leave us be. Jeff cracked up with a surprised look on his face, and turned to go back in his room, muttering to himself, "well, its about time!" He shut the door and hurried to his room phone. He quickly dialed Amy's number.
"Yeah, Amy its Jeff, quick, look out your window towards Maria's room, you might wanna see this." He told her anxiously.
"What? Alright, hold on..." her voice trailed off as she walked to her window, which was across the parking lot from ours and looked in our direction.
Her mouth dropped in shock and she hurried back to the phone.
"Oh my goodness! Well, it's about time, don't ya think?!"
"That's what I said, I've been waiting for them to kiss since the day they met for crying out loud!" Jeff said loudly into the receiver.
"Yeah, yeah...say Jeff do you want to go for a walk with me, I have this itching to get out?" Amy asked hesitantly into the phone.
"Sure, yeah, I'll be over in a minute, yup, bye." Jeff hung up the phone and sighed nervously, at the thought that this might be his chance to talk with Amy about something he had wanted to talk with her about for sometime.
He put on his favorite leather jacket, even though the night had been a bit warm. He looked over himself in the mirror, suddenly caring about his appearance, which he never gave much thought to. He took his long multi-colored hair and tied it back in a low pony-tail. He then wrapped a black bandana around his head and pushed it back, keeping the loose ends of his hair from falling in his face. Under his leather jacket he smoothed his white v-neck tee and tucked it in to his gray baggy knit pants and put his black Adidas sandals over his gray socks. He then headed out the door and walked slowly across the parking lot to where Amy had been waiting outside her door.
"Ready?" She asked with a bright smile.
"Yeah, so where are we headed?" He asked, glancing up at the night sky that was an endless ocean of diamond-like stars.
"I don't country boy, you tell me, know of any good places where we could just sit and talk?" She asked, at that moment, accidentally brushing hands with Jeff who was walking rather close to her.
"Sorry." She said nervously.
She then placed both of her hands in her hooded sweatshirt pocket, as not to bump him again.
"Yeah, actually I do, I mean I know we're not back in Cameron, but there is this big field not to far away from here, where you can see every star in the entire sky, shall we go?" He asked, now becoming a little more relaxed.
"Let's do it." She smiled from underneath her faded baseball cap, her hazel eyes shimmering in the dimness of the sparse street lights.
"It's just up here past this little clearing...I'll race ya.." Jeff said, bringing back the kid inside.
"You can't run in sandals." She said, looking down at his feet.
"Last one there has to kiss the other's bare feet!" Jeff shouted and took off running at high speed.
"Oh, no you don't, Jeffrey!!" Amy chased after him, hot on his heels.
They made it to the field in a tie and collapsed on the ground beside each other.
"So, it was a tie, who kisses who's feet now?" She asked, her chest heaving from the sudden run.
"In the event of a tie," he said, putting on his ring announcer voice, "we both have to kiss each other's feet." He laughed, still breathing heavily.
"Okay, take off your socks and shoes and I'll do the same, then we'll decide who has to go first."
Jeff did as he was told. Amy also removed her sneaker and socks. Jeff looked into her eyes, not only wanting to kiss her feet but her lips as well.
"I'll just do it first and get it over with." He smiled.
"Good, here ya go, a peck on each foot, then it will be my turn." Amy said, putting her feet forward.
Her toenails were painted a pretty red.
"I hate feet, but yours are kind of pretty, can feet be pretty?" He asked.
"You're stalling, just do it." Amy said with a smile.
"I know, I picked this because I thought you'd loose!." Jeff said, raising an eyebrow to her.
"Do it tough guy." She repeated.
He looked back down at her feet, he closed his eyes and kissed the first foot almost in a sensual manner. He did the same with the second foot. At that point the realization that Jeff had liked her, hit her with somewhat of a surprise.
"Okay, I did it , your turn." He said with a mocking smile.
"Alright, alright, don't rush me..." She kneeled down and kissed each foot leaving her lipstick mark on each one.
Jeff laughed being that he was ticklish.
"Oh, ticklish, are we?" Amy saw his weakness and tackled him to the ground, tickling him all over.
Jeff squirmed helplessly and laughed uncontrollably. She let up for a second, letting him breath.
"Have you had enough yet?" She grabbed him again, putting him through sweet torture.
"Yeah...wait...stop!" Jeff said, in between laughing and trying to breath.
"Okay, I surrender." Jeff finally got out one sentence.
She stopped, leaning over him with a big smile on her face. He smiled back, feeling comfortable with her, not awkward like he had originally thought. He wanted at that moment to reach up and gently kiss her, but he didn't know if he had wanted to jepordize their special bond. At that moment, he no longer had to deal with the answer to that question, as Amy took it upon herself to kiss him. She was still leaning over him, she reached down and placed her hand on the side of his face, rubbing her thumb back-n-forth over his smooth skin. It was suddenly revealed to her, the passion behind his wild eyes. She had never noticed it before until that night, but she figured it must have been there before, building and stirring inside him, but she must have somehow over looked it. Suddenly she flashed back to the night they slow danced in the club and now when she looked back on that moment, she had seen it, almost mad at herself for not picking up the subtle hints. Hesitantly she moved toward his pouty lips. He raised his chin to meet her lips. Finally they met with tenderness. The kiss was slow at first, as the two did not really know how to handle themselves with each other. The two had always been such close friends, they had never thought that it would come down to kissing. Jeff had been the one who had fallen first though. The kiss ended abruptly though, as Amy stood to her feet her head in her hands.
"Amy, what's wrong?" Jeff asked, also standing, coming up behind her touching her shoulder.
"I don't know if I can do this, its just too weird for me." Amy said, shrugging away his touch.
"Amy, this is what I wanted to talk with you about. I've wanted to tell you for a long time that I liked you, but I didn't know what to do about it, or how." Jeff tried to explain.
She turned to face him, her eyes brimming with tears, "I think what scares me the most is that I like you back."
She threw her arms around his neck and cried on his shoulder.
"Oh, its okay...shhh.... it's okay." He hugged her tightly and rocked her back-n-forth.
