Chapter 34

Later on that night Matt and I were perched in plastic lawn chairs outside my motel room. It was pleasant night with a breeze cooling our warm skin. I took in the fresh air and sighed. My legs were stretched out and resting on Matt's lap. He ran his finger tips over the tops of my feet giving me goose bumps. I turned back to look at him and locked my eyes with his. I couldn't get over his beautiful brown eyes. I could loose myself in them for hours, I thought to myself.

"Nice night, isn't it?" He spoke up quietly.

"Perfect." I whispered back, suddenly tearing my eyes away from his, only to bring them back to his gaze.

"Matt, why are you, Jeff and Amy mad at each other?" I asked.

"This whole me and Amy kissing each other is going to drive us all insane. We were fine when we went out to wrestle, but Amy got hit by accident, and I went to help her up. I even hugged her and Jeff got upset that was the one helping her and not him. Then Jerry and JR had the audacity to tell the entire crowd that something was going on between us. Then Amy got mad at Jeff for acting like a child, when I helped her up. So now none of us are speaking." Matt explained, still playing with my feet.

"Oh boy. That could be a problem since you are a team. Matt, I know that before I told you I was okay with you and Amy kissing, but its been driving me crazy too. I don't want it to, but I keep letting it get the best of me. Please don't me mad at me Matt. I'm even having nightmares that you and Amy get married! Its awful!" I began.

I needed to tell him the truth even though it wasn't easy.

He sighed and rubbed his fingers over his tired eyes, "Maria, I'm not mad at you, because I know how you feel. I just want to have them change the whole thing."

"Matt don't do that on account of me and Jeff, just get it over with." I said.

"I would like to say that it would be the first and last time we have to do this, but they want to make a big deal out of us being "couple" so there will probably be more kissing."

"Well, its acting, I just have to keep telling myself that." I sighed.

I sat up in my chair and leaned forward. Matt sat with his head in his hands. I put a hand on the side of his face and kissed his forehead lightly. I felt better then, knowing that I had told Matt the truth.

"Yeah..." His voice trailed off.

"You know what, I'm not worried anymore, but I think you are. Don't let Jeff bother you, I'll talk to him for you. I'm sure he'll understand." I kissed his forehead again. He gave me a lazy smile.

"I hope so." He nodded.

The big day had finally arrived. It was 7:30 in the morning and already the arena was bustling with people. Adam, Jason and I were talking things through in the ring, going over minor details. Matt, Jeff and Amy were talking again, but only talk that was necessary. I hated to see the three of them like that. I made a mental note to have a talk with Jeff later on. As I looked down on them Amy threw me a helpless look. I slightly nodded at her, also telling myself to have a talk with her.

"Maria, could we, we're trying to help you here, so you're comfortable tonight." Adam said, getting annoyed that I hadn't been paying attention.

"Sorry, guys, I have a lot on my mind lately, so whatever you tell me, I won't remember by 9 o'clock anyway. Just remind me fifteen minutes before we have to go on." I replied turning back to Adam and Jay.

"Maria, you can't do that, everything has to be planned out so no one gets injured." Adam argued with me.

"I know, I know, my mind just can't take this right now, can we go over this later, I need some quiet time." I sighed at them.

"Yeah, sure, Maria, take a break, in fact I'll join you." Jay spoke up.

"Thanks Jay, okay, sounds good to me." Jay and I left Adam standing in the ring looking huffy.

We walked back up the ramp, passing the three who weren't even looking at each other. I acknowledged them and kept walking. Jay and I walked to the break room and got sodas out of the vending machine. We took seats on either side of a table and avoided each other's eyes.

"So, Maria, ya have something on your mind that you want to talk about?" Jay spoke up after a few moments.

"Yeah... we are all driving each other crazy." I started.

"I can see that, you all look so tension filled, it has to stop, or all of this distraction will cause an injury."

"I know, I know, and I've been trying to be the mediator through this whole ordeal."

"Well, what is going on exactly?" Jay raised an eyebrow towards me.

"Next Monday night on RAW, its in the script that Matt and Amy have to kiss, and its been making everyone edgy."

"What's your whole perspective on this issue?" Jay asked, leaning on his hand.

"Well, I don't like it, but its a job, and nothing more. I have to deal with it. If I stay involved with Matt its going to be happening all the time. The script is going to call for something that neither of like, but have to deal with. That's the way it is. Either you do it, or you get fired." I replied.

"You are absolutely right. At least you have some sense in you, everyone around here is so difficult to deal with when something doesn't go their way."

"Yeah, I noticed that." I smiled a bit.

"Thanks for talking with me Jay, I appreciate it." I said, patting his arm.

"Well, now what, should we head back and see what's going on?" Jay asked.

"Sure." I answered, feeling better.

"Okay, let's go." He said, rising from the table.
