Chapter 41
"Maria, we’re back...are you feeling...?" Matt’s voice trailed off into silence, as my room was empty when he entered it. "Maria? Are you still here?" He called out in concern.
"Matt, what’s wrong?" Jeff came in after he did. "Where’s Maria?" He came to the same conclusion as Matt had.
"I don’t know Jeff, all of her things are gone."
"You don’t think she would have just up and left do you?" Matt asked, scanning the room for some sort of note that would tell him where I had gone to.
"Well, things around here, haven’t exactly been peachy, if you know what I mean." Jeff replied.
"I know, I know..." Matt brought his hand to his face rested it there, sighing a deep sigh.
"Wait, I think I found something..." Jeff spotted a sheet of paper on the night stand next to the bed. "Yes, it’s a letter from Maria, addressed to you...here." He handed Matt the folded paper.
Matt looked up wearily and slowly took the paper from Jeff’s hands.
Dear Matthew,
It is hard for me to write this letter to you, but it is something I must do. You opened my eyes to knew things, new emotions and feelings, and I thank you for that. But, I have decided that things in the WWF were just not working for me. I have decided to go back home to my hometown in Pennsylvania and go back to teaching like I had been before I got the call from the WWF. Matthew, go on with your life, pursue your wrestling career and take hold of your dreams. I will be watching and admiring you from afar. Always remember, that I will always continue to love you, and maybe later on in life we will meet again and things will be different. I love you,
Maria*
"I can’t believe this..." Matt whispered, letting the sheet of paper drop to the ground.
"Matt, what’s wrong?" Jeff asked.
"She did leave, she went back up to her hometown to teach high school again, starting in fall, I assume."
"Oh, Matt, I am soo sorry. Did she leave her address or phone number?"
"No, there is nothing here. But, she still says she loves me...I just don’t get it?" Matt replied, taking a seat on the bed.
"I don’t know bro, just leave her have her space, maybe she’ll come back to you. That’s all I can say." Jeff replied, patting his brother’s shoulder while taking a seat next to him.
"Hey guys, have any of you seen Maria?" Amy asked, suddenly coming through the open door. Without words, Matt handed Amy the note. Amy read it and breathed a sad sigh. "Oh, Matt, I am soo sorry. I’m going to miss her." Amy replied, taking a seat on the other side of Matt.
