Chapter 8
"Oh, dear God, what is happening?" cried Trish.
"It must be the killer. It just has to be." said Shannon.
"I'm not gonna let him get in. Nobody's gonna hurt my friends." said Matt. He got up from the floor and ran to the kitchen.
"Matt, what the hell are you doing?" screamed Lita.
"I'm gonna take care of this freak myself." he came back into the room with a long butcher knife in his hands.
"Matt what in the hell are you thinking? Put that down!" yelled Jeff, who had never seen this side of his brother before.
"Jeff, there comes a time in every man's life when he's gotta learn to fight for what he thinks is right. This is my time." said Matt. He was just about to head for the door when Lita ran after him.
"Matt, please. I am begging you, don't go after him. You're all I have. He killed three of our friends. He's more powerful than you are." said Lita.
Matt let out a strong sigh. "I understand that. It's just that I've always been taught to fight evil. I've known that since I was a little boy." said Matt. "Well I've always been taught that it's better to be safe than sorry. I love you so much, Matt. I just want to go home and get away from here. I'm so scared." She put her arms around him.
"You know, we should forget about going after him. It's too risky. I say we just run out of here. Straight to our car." said Edge.
"But what about our stuff? Do we just leave it here or something?" asked Trish.
"That's not important now. He already tried scaring us by cutting off the electricity, let's just hope he doesn't do the same with our necks." said Edge. "But how are we gonna do this? Do we just open the door and run?" asked Shannon.
"That's all we can do. But we have to do it quick. Come on." Edge said. They all got up from the floor.
"I don't know about this..." said Trish, a very worried expression on her face.
"It'll be okay. Just follow me." said Edge.
"Wait. Before we go, we should look out the window just to make sure he's not around." said Matt.
Monica went over to the window and looked through. Nothing. "Nope. All I see is the moon and trees, but no person." she said.
"Alright. Now we have to be very quiet. You've all seen the movies. Serial killers are very sneaky." said Edge. "Okay, ready? Here goes." Edge opened the door very slowly. The coast was clear. "Alright, everyone. Follow me and stay very close together. Even if you have to hold hands." Edge whispered.
They creeped slowly through the woods. "Now we gotta be quick. Our car's in the front." They were making it closer and closer to the beginning of the woods when suddenly, there was a rustling in the bushes.
"Oh, my God, what was that?" yelled Monica, turning around sharply. "Shh! Keep it down. It was just a raccoon." said Christian.
"No, I don't think so." said Monica. "Oh, no, I think he found us.
“What if he can see us right now?" asked Lita.
"Be quiet! We have to hurry, okay? Look, the car's right up there. We can make it." said Matt. Within minutes, they had reached their van. "Somebody give me the keys." Matt said.
"We don't have them. Jericho was the driver, remember?" said Shannon.
"Oh, damn, that's right. We're screwed." he said.
"Wait, I have an idea. I know this is a brand new van and all, but why don't we just break the window and get in?" said Christian.
"You dumbass. How far can we get with a broken window and no keys? Like that makes any sense." muttered Edge.
"Oh, shut up. Why don't you try thinking of an idea with a serial killer around? I don't see you coming up with any plans." Christian replied.
"You know something? I'm just as scared as all of you. Don't you think I'd rather be at home with Alannah than here fighting for my life?" asked Edge. "Sure I know." said Christian.
"Good. Then quit pissing me off." Edge said.
"Would you two please shut up and keep your voices down?"Matt said.
"Okay, okay, I'm sorry." said Christian. "I just got an idea.
Whenever someone buys a new car they always have a spare key, right?"
"Well maybe
Jericho has one in his glove compartment." said Matt.
"Oh, you're right, he
does. I remember seeing it the night we..." she blushed as everyone looked at
her. "Never mind...proceed." she said.
"Here, Matt. I found this big rock on
the ground. It should easily break the window." said Jeff.
"Thanks."
Everyone stood back as Matt broke threw the window causing a loud crash. He
unlocked the door and bent inside.
"You all set in there, Matt? I can help you
look for it if you want." offered Monica.
"No, I'm okay." Matt yelled back.
"Oh, my gosh, I am so scared. We're in these ghastly woods all alone and I just
can't seem to shake the feeling that we're being watched." said Lita.
"I hate
to say this but I think you're right. I have the worst feeling. I can almost
smell the dead of this place." said Trish.
"Boy, Matt. You sure are taking lo
ng in there. I know where the key is. Just let me help you." said Monica. He
was silent for a moment. "He's all the way inside that van that he can't even
hear me." she said.
She walked over to the van and peered inside. Matt wasstill inside.
She poked him in the back. "Matt, hurry up. I wanna get the
hell out of here." she said. "Matt? Hello???" she called out.
She got
inside and pulled his arm back, turning him over.
"Matt? OH MY GOD!!!" she
screamed, jumping out of the van.
"What? What's wrong?" cried everyone,
running to the van.
"Matt's been axed to death!!! Oh, my, God, he's been
killed! He's here! The killer's here!" Monica screamed, crying as well.
"Matt, no!!! No, this can't be! How did this happen?" cried Jeff.
