Chapter 6

"Holy shit! Jeff you scared me!" Meredith said holding her heart.

"Sorry." Jeff said.

"It's okay. What are you doing her?"

"I wanted to talk to you." Jeff said.

"You waited here for me, that's so sweet. What did you want to talk about?" she asked.

"What happened last night?" Jeff asked.

"Well, Chad asked to take me home and since you didn't......." Meredith started smiling. "I said yes. I told him to take a left and he didn't, he said he wanted to show me a special place. We got there and he kissed me. I was really surprised but I went along with it. I mean it's just kissing. Anyways he started feeling me up, I said stop and told him to take me home, and he did." Meredith finished.

"What a bastard." Jeff said.

"Well, do you want to come over and talk some more? It's getting cold out here." Meredith asked.

"Okay."

They got to Meredith's house and Meredith told Jeff to wait in the car while she asked her parents if he could come in.

"I'm home!" Meredith yelled closing the door.

"Where the hell have you been?" Her dad asked yelling. Meredith could smell the alcohol in his breath.

"At school."

"Here's a story. My coworker comes to me and says I'm so proud of my son. He had his first experience last night. I ask with who. He says oh some new girl. Mary or Meredith, something like that! You stupid slut!" Her dad yelled rasing his hand. Meredith ran up the stairs and into her room. She heard her dad coming so she locked it. She turned the radio super loud and prayed her Mom would come home soon. Meanwhile back in the car, Jeff heard yelling. He got out of the car and seen Meredith's shadow in an upstairs room. He decided not to knock so he climbed up the tree on the side of the house. He jumped over onto the balcony and knocked on the window. Meredith opened the window and let Jeff in.

"Jeff I think you better go." Meredith whispered her voice shaking.

"Meredith does your dad hit you?" Jeff asked holding her shoulders.

"Only sometimes when he's drunk. Jeff I...." Meredith started.

"Meredith who are you talking to?!" her dad asked from the other side of the door.

"I'm not talking to anyone. I'm singing to the song. Go away I don't want to talk to you." She yelled.

"Jeff you must leave." She whispered. Her dad started kicking the door and after three kicks the door opened.

"Meredith who's here?" He yelled.

"No one! Get out of my room!" She yelled pushing him. Finally he looked at her and slapped her hard a crossed the face. She yelled in pain, then he left since his job was done. Meredith closed the door and locked it again. She opened her bathroom door and ran to Jeff. He held her and let her cry. He carried her to her bed and tucked her in. He turned and left for the window.

"Jeff, don't leave me. Not yet." Meredith asked, her eyes blood shot. Jeff went over to her and laid next to her for the next hour. He climbed out of the window and walked home. Since he lived like three miles from Meredith he didn't get home until ten. He walked into his house to find his older brother Matt and his girlfriend Ashley on the couch making out. His dad was still at work.

"Where have you been little bro?" Matt asked.

"I don't want to talk about it." Jeff said going up stairs to his room.

"Whatever." Matt said trying to kiss Ashley again.

"Go talk to him!" Ashley said.

"Grrr.... all right." Matt said getting up. He walked to Jeff's room and knocked. He heard Jeff say come in, so he did.

"What's the matter?" Matt asked.

"This girl."

"Ahhh girl troubles." Matt said.

"No I like this girl, she just moved here yesterday but I feel so drawn to her. It scares me, I mean we just met. But now some guy who is supposed to be my friend spread a rumor about her. Her dad found out, he thinks it's true, so he hit her." Jeff said quietly.

"She must be some girl if you like her this much already." Matt responded.

"She is."

"Well, why don't you ask her out? Like our big BBQ on Saturday." Matt suggested.

"I'm afraid she'll say no." Jeff said.

"She won't say no. Trust me." Matt said getting up and leaving.
