Chapter 9

Amy smiled as she walked down the hallway of the arena. They had finally finished the promo, and Matt had told her that Jay was waiting for her and had a surprised.

She stopped in front of Jay’s locker room when she heard voices coming from it. The door was open and Amy could see Jay in there with a brunette. Her heart jumped into her throat as she recognized the slim brunette from a picture she had seen, it was Tessa.

“What is she doing here?” Amy whispered, walking closer and looking in trying to make out what they were saying, she could make out a few words as she strained to listen.

“What am I doing?” she mumbled, feeling bad for eavesdropping. She wanted to walk away, but something made her stay where she stood. Whether it was pure curiosity or not, she knew she needed to hear what was going on.

Amy’s heart jumped into her throat and she had to use the wall for support at hearing the only thing that was audible.

“I’m pregnant! Jay, I’m pregnant!” Tessa cried loudly, then broke into sobs.

“Oh my god…” Amy mumbled sliding down the wall so she was on her knees.

“You’re pregnant?” she heard Jay ask loudly, shock in his voice.

Amy watched as Tessa shook her head violently, her brown hair shaking as she covered her face with her hands.

“It’s mine?” Jay asked, realization hitting him.

Amy saw Tessa nod as Jay’s face filled with shock… shock, disbelief, and confusion. Amy brought her hand to her mouth to cover up a sob.

“I’m sorry Jay,” Tessa mumbled, “I’m so sorry to just bring this to you, but I didn’t know what else to do. I’m so scared.”

“It’s alright,” he replied, pulling Tessa close into him and hugging her.

Amy couldn’t watch anymore. She slowly got to her feet and tried to steady herself, but she felt dizzy. Her chest ached as she looked into the locker room where Jay stood holding Tessa.

Amy started running, as fast as her legs would carry her. She ran past a few people she recognized, but tears blurred her vision.

“Amy?” she heard someone call after her. She recognized the voice immediately to be Matt’s, but she didn’t stop. She couldn’t.

She ran into the nearest woman’s bathroom and slammed the door behind her, resting her back on it. Giving into her tears, she lost her strength and slid down the door. Pulling her legs into her chest, she sobbed into her lap as her shoulders shook violently.

Tessa was back, she was going to get Jay again, Amy knew it.

“I’m pregnant Jay,” the words rung in her ears, over and over, taunting the sobbing Amy.

Amy had lost her chance; the one person she wanted to be with more then anything was now down the hallway, holding a woman he used to love, whom he still loved, and whom he’d always love. Amy was just second best…

“I can’t believe it,” Jason said with a small smile, disbelief in his eyes, “I’m gonna be a father.”

“And we’re gonna be back together,” Tessa said happily, taking his hands in his own, “we’re going to be a happy family.”

“Together again?” Jay whispered, his eyes avoiding hers, “oh my god…”

“I know,” Tessa exclaimed, “I really thought us breaking up would be best for both of us, but I really started to miss you. Then when I found out I was pregnant…”

“Amy…” Jay mumbled softly with distant eyes.

“Amy?” Tessa questioned, “who’s that?”

“Tessa, you know that I love you,” Jason said, snapping out of his thoughts and staring at Tessa intently.

“I know sweetie, and I love you too,” she interrupted beaming, “and now we’re going to be together again, just like we had always planned.”

“I can’t Tessa, I can’t be with you.”

“You can’t?” she cried shock, pain filling her eyes, “why not? I thought you still loved me!”

“I do Tess,” he rushed, “I will always love you, and I want to be apart of our baby’s life, a huge part. I still want to be there for him, but I can’t be with you again.”

“If this is about me breaking up with you Jay,” Tessa pleaded, “I was wrong, I knew I was wrong. Please let’s try to work this out!”

“It’s not that,” he replied, his face breaking into a small smile, “I found someone else. I love her Tess, just like I love you… or loved you… she understands me, we’re perfect for each other…”

“Is that who those are for?” Tessa asked, pointing to the roses across the room.

Jay nodded slowly, “I’m really sorry Tess. I do care about you…”

“I couldn’t expect you to not move on with your life,” Tessa interrupted, “I understand. I hope you and she are very happy together.”

“I still want to be a huge part of our baby’s life,” Jason explained, “I still want to be his dad.”

“I know Jay,” Tessa nodded, “you should go find your girl now sweetie. Go ahead.”

“I can’t believe you understand Tess,” Jay said pulling her into a hug.

“What are you waiting for?” Tessa asked with a small smile, tears gleaming in her eyes, “go find her.”

“Are you sure?” Jay asked cautiously, inching back.

“Yeah, go ahead sweetie,” she said softly, “you deserve to be happy. To be with someone who makes you happy.”

“You’re the best Tessa,” Jay laughed, rubbing her stomach softly and giving her a soft kiss on the cheek before grabbing the roses and leaving the room with a smile over his shoulder and small wave.

“No, I’m not,” she said sadly, sitting down on the couch, “I’m second best… that’s the problem.”
