Chapter 14
Jeff hummed to himself as he walked back to his hotel room. He knocked on the door softly an waited for Matt to answer it. The last thing Jeff wanted was to be confronted by his brother, but he needed new clothes.
“Hey,” Matt said with a yawn opening the door, “forget your key?”
“Yeah,” Jeff answered, pushing past Matt into the hotel room and heading for his suitcase.
“You stay with Jamie?” Matt asked as she made his way back to his bed and crawled in it.
‘Not that it’s any of your business Matt, but yes I did.”
Matt didn’t say anything as Jeff saw him roll over in the bed under the covers and let out another loud yawn. Jeff laughed as he noticed the light under the bathroom door on and heard the shower running.
“You and Amy made up huh?” Jeff asked with a chuckle.
Matt pulled the covers off him and rolled over, looking at Jeff with a smile and wink.
“Well congratulations,” Jeff said coolly, looking through his bag and away from his brother.
“Jeff,” Matt said, looking at his younger brother.
“What?” Jeff said, looking up from his bag and at his brother. The man at one point was like another father to him, was now someone he couldn’t bare to look at.
“Amy and I did some talking last night,” Matt said softly, “And she made me realize that you’re not my baby brother anymore and that you have to make your own decisions.”
“Amy’s a smart girl,” Jeff replied, sitting cross legged on his bed.
“I know,” Matt said, “And as much as I don’t want to see you get hurt, I have to let you make your own decisions. And if being with Jamie makes you happy, then I guess I can’t stop you.”
“That’s cool of you man,” Jeff said, a smile appearing on his face, “Does this mean you’re going to be nicer to Jamie from now on?”
“I’ll try Jeff,” Matt promised with a smile, “and I didn’t mean what I said…”
“What?” Jeff asked.
“If anything happens, I will be here for you Jeff,” Matt said, leaning on his elbows and looking at Jeff, “You’re still my baby brother and I love you.”
Jeff nodded and smiled at his brother, “You can be an asshole sometimes Matt. But thanks.”
Jeff lied his head back on his pillow as he listened to Matt talk about their match later on that night. Jeff didn’t really pay attention to Matt as his mind wandered back to the night before. A smile formed on his face and just the thought of him and Jamie, their bodies pressed close to each other as the laid in each other’s arms. Jeff wasn’t about to admit it to anyone, especially not Matt, but he was in love.

Jamie let the warm water wash over her as she stood in the shower. A smile seemed to be permanently plastered on her face since the night before. She remembered the way Jeff touched her so gently, and the way he talked to her so lovingly, she let out a sigh as the warm water continued to pour over her body.
A few minutes later, Jamie turned the water off, climbing out of the shower and wrapping a towel around her body. She walked out of the bathroom and to her suitcase where she started to pull out some clothes, when her cell phone rang from the bottom of it. She quickly dug it out and answered it, figuring it was her work or even Jeff.
“Hello?” Jamie asked picking up the phone.
“Jamie? Where are you?” the man’s voice asked.
“Daddy?” Jamie squeaked, surprised, “Would you believe if I told you I was with the WWF?”
“Funny Jamie,” her father said with a chuckle, “I’ve called your house about 20 times, and there was no answer. Where are you?”
“Dad, I really am with the WWF,” Jamie answered seriously.
“The WWF?” her father asked confused, “what are you doing with a wrestling company?”
“Well Daddy,” Jamie said nervously, “I’m… I’m dating one of their wrestlers and I’m traveling with him.”
Jamie bit her lip as she listened to the silence. Not knowing how her father would react.
“Dad? You still there?” Jamie asked, after a few more seconds of silence.
“Jamie,” her father said sternly, “Are you insane? A wrestler?”
“He’s so great Dad!” Jamie demanded, “He’s sweet, funny…”
“A wrestler?” her father interrupted surprised.
“Dad,” Jamie sighed exasperated, “You have to meet Jeff. I know you’ll like him.”
“When are you coming home?” her father asked.
“We’re catching a flight tomorrow morning,” Jamie told her father.
“Well then how about you and him meet me at the country club Thursday for brunch? That way I can meet this guy,” her father suggested, a small challenge in his voice.
“Fine,” Jamie said, her voice shaking a little, “I’d love to, and I’m sure Jeff can’t wait to meet you.”
“Well, travel safe sweetie,” her father said, the challenge in his voice completely gone, “I love you.”
“Love you too Daddy,” Jamie replied hanging up her cell and taking a nervous breath.
She threw the cell phone back in the bag and ran a hand through her damp blonde hair. It wasn’t that her father and her didn’t have a good relationship, because they really did. It was the only family she had since her mother had left them over 13 years ago, but it still felt that nothing she ever did was right.
Everything she wanted, he wanted the opposite. She wanted to stay in New York for college, but instead she went to Boston. Why? Because that’s where her father wanted her to go. When she wanted to major in photography, her father, of course, wouldn’t even think of his daughter “wasting her life”, so instead she went into business like her father wanted. And when it came to guys, it seemed that no matter who she picked, he was never good enough for her father, and she was worried that Jeff would not meet her father’s standards. Jamie let out a frustrated sigh as she looked down at the cell phone.
“Screw him,” she said aloud in the empty room, then said it louder, “screw him! I’m my own damn person, and this is my damn life, and I can be with who I want!”
Jamie smiled as she let those words out, making herself feel a little better; A little more independent. Jamie quickly pulled some clothes out of her suitcase and walked back into the bathroom.
