Chapter 5

Jamie jumped at the sound of the doorbell, then laughed at herself. She looked down at the silver watch dangling from her wrist. 7 on the dot. She looked around the living room one more time before walking down the hall to the front door.

She looked at herself in the hall mirror before opening the door. She smiled at her reflection, the little black dress she wore showed off her slender figure and tone arms, the shortness of the skirt showed off her long legs, and her hair was done up perfectly. She took a deep breath before finally opening the door.

She smiled at seeing Jeff standing there with a sweet smile on his face; his hair pulled neatly back into a ponytail, a bouquet of flowers in hand.

“Hey Jeff,” Jamie said slowly.

“Hey,” Jeff said, his smile growing wider as he looked at her. He gazed at her, almost as if memorizing every inch of her, “You look amazing.”

“Thanks,” Jamie said as she kissed Jeff softly on the cheek and led him into the house, “Come on in.”

Jeff followed Jamie down the hall to the living room. He smiled at seeing it… the lights were dimmed and music was playing softly.

“These are for you,” Jeff said handing her the bouquet of red roses. Jamie smiled as she took them.

“Thanks Jeff,” she said smelling them, “they’re beautiful.”

“Just like you,” Jeff answered softly, causing Jamie to blush.

Jamie placed the flowers down on the couch and walked over to Jeff. She reached up and placed her lips softly against his. Closing his eyes he moved his hands down the Jamie’s waist as they stood in the middle of the living room, sharing a passionate kiss.

Jamie smiled as she pulled away and looked up at him, “You hungry?”

Jeff grinned, “yeah, I’m pretty hungry.”

“I don’t cook,” Jamie laughed taking his hand and leading him towards the kitchen, “but there’s this great little Chinese restaurant down the street. I thought maybe we could call and get some take in, if you’d like?”

“Sure,” Jeff said watching her pick up the phone and dialing the number. He walked out of the room and down the hallway, admiring the pictures as he went.

“The food’ll be here in a few minutes,” Jamie said a few minutes later, walking down the hall to find Jeff gazing at her pictures. She walked up behind him and placed her arms around his stomach.

“These are incredible,” Jeff said in awe as he looked at the photographs in awe, “where did you buy these?”

“I didn’t,” Jamie said breaking her hold from Jeff and walking over so she was standing next to him, “I took them.”

“You?” Jeff asked, tearing his gaze from the pictures to Jamie, “They’re amazing. You have so much talent.”

“Thanks,” Jamie said shyly. It wasn’t often she got complimented on her photography.

“This one’s incredible,” Jeff said, gently fingering the frame around a picture of a little girl and her mother.

“That’s my favorite,” Jamie agreed as Jeff wrapped his arm around her and pulled her close, “I like to think of it as my mom and me.”

“Are you and your mom close?” Jeff asked, still admiring the picture.

“No, she left when I was little,” Jamie said sadly, looking away from the picture and from Jeff.

“I’m sorry,” Jeff said, studying Jamie.

“It’s alright,” Jamie said with a small grin as she looked at Jeff, “Come on, that’s the doorbell. Let’s get our food.”

“Alright,” Jeff said, as Jamie took his hand and led him down the hall.
