Chapter 6
Jamie and Jeff sat on a blanket in the middle of the living room floor 20 minutes later.
“I always wanted to go into photography,” Jamie explained, “But everyone always discouraged it. So I went into advertising instead.”
“You gave up what you love?” Jeff asked, studying her face.
“I wouldn’t say gave up,” Jamie said with a shrug, “I still do it on the side. I actually have a dark room in my basement.”
Jeff laughed, “that’s very cool. Does you dad like the idea of you as a photographer?”
Jamie shook her head violently, “Please… my dad hates that. He’s the one who told me I need a ‘real job’.”
“I heard that a lot when I wanted to become a wrestler,” Jeff said with a small grin.
“Did you dad tell you that?” Jamie asked.
“No,” Jeff said thoughtfully, “actually, he has always been supportive of Matt and me going after our dreams.”
Jamie smiled as she took a sip of her wine, “you’re lucky. What about you mom? Was she supportive?”
Jeff looked down to the ground, “My mom died when I was little.”
Jamie bit her lip, “I’m so sorry Jeff. I had no idea…”
“It’s ok,” Jeff said with a small smile, “thanks. What about your mom? She just left you?”
Jamie nodded, “I guess family life wasn’t good enough for her. She left when I was 10 and I haven’t heard or seen from her since.”
“Then I guess we both know how it feels to lose someone you love,” Jeff said staring into her eyes.
Jamie felt breathless as his eyes burned into hers. She couldn’t deny the chemistry the two shared, and now it was something else that tied them together.
“I guess we do,” Jamie said softly, still gazing at Jeff’s eyes.
Jeff smiled as he turned his gaze from Jamie and to his food. Jamie laughed as Jeff tried to get his food with the chopsticks he had been given.
“Damn,” Jeff said with a laugh as the food slipped through the chopsticks, “Why do these have to be so difficult?”
“Come here,” Jamie said with a laugh as she sat up and kneeled in front of Jeff.
She slowly gathered some food in the chopsticks, and carefully placed it in Jeff’s mouth. He grinned at her with his mouth full of food.
Jeff quickly swallowed, then smiled at Jamie, “Wow, a woman that feeds me. How good is that?”
Jamie laughed at Jeff. There was something about him that just made her so comfortable, so at ease.
“The best you’ll get,” Jamie teased back, staring into Jeff’s eyes.
“Come here,” Jeff said with a devilish smile.
“What?” Jamie asked leaning forward.
“You have something right… there,” Jeff said placing his finger softly at the corner of her mouth.
Jamie raised her finger to her mouth and touched it, “Is it gone?”
“No,” Jeff said with a small smile as he leaned forward, his lips softly touching the corner of her mouth, sending chills up and down Jamie’s spine.
“Now it is,” Jeff said as he leaned backwards.
Jamie tried not to blush, but couldn’t help it, “thanks.”
“You blush a lot,” Jeff said.
“Well…” Jamie started, but was cut off by Jeff’s lip pressing against hers.
Jeff ended the kiss a minute or so later, but didn’t move his face.
“You’re beautiful, you know that?” Jeff breathed against Jamie’s lips.
Jamie softly rested her lips on Jeff’s. Not needing words to show how she felt for him. The attraction the two shared, the chemistry that was there… Jamie felt the kiss grow more and more passionate as she felt Jeff’s hands move from her hips to her back. His hands felt so cold on Jamie’s bare back; it sent more chills down her spine. She sighed as she felt his lips travel from her lips to her ear, then to her neck before returning to her lips.
Jamie felt lost in a swoon of calm, of love, of peace. She felt Jeff’s hands on her shoulders, moving down her back. She felt her back hit the ground softly, she giggled as her hand made a small thud on the carpet.
“You ok?” Jeff asked with a grin as he looked down at her.
Jamie giggled again, “yeah. Do you want to go someplace more comfortable maybe… like my bedroom.”
Jeff thought for a second, “I don’t think we should actually.”
“Oh,” Jamie said, feeling a bit confused. It seemed like things were really getting hot and heavy, but maybe not.
“It’s not that I don’t want to, believe me, I’d love to,” Jeff said with a smile, “but it’s too soon.”
Jamie nodded and was about to say something when her phone rang.
“One second,” she promised Jeff as she rushed to the cordless phone a few feet away. Jeff smiled.
“Hello… Jeff… one second…” Jamie covered the mouthpiece with her hand and looked at Jeff, “It’s for you. It’s your brother.”
Jeff looked at Jamie, “It’s Matt?”
Jamie shrugged as she handed the phone to Jeff, “I guess so.”
Jeff quickly too the phone from Jamie, “Matt? What’s up? Is everything ok?”
“Yeah, it’s fine,” Matt said on the other end.
“Ok, then why’d you call?” Jeff asked, “and how’d you get the number?”
“I tried your cell and you didn’t pick up. So I called Jen and asked if she’d seen you, and she said you might be here and she gave me the number,” Matt answered.
“You’re checking up on me now?” Jeff asked, his voice somewhat challenging.
“Someone has to,” Matt said loudly back, “what are you doing at random girl’s houses?”
Jeff looked over at Jamie and sighed.
“Is everything alright?” she asked softly. Jeff nodded yes and looked away.
“Matt, can we talk later?” Jeff asked annoyed at his brother’s protectiveness.
“Sure,” Matt answered with a sigh, “Whatever. Am I still picking you up tomorrow for the flight?”
“Yeah,” Jeff answered, “I’ll give you a call when I get home. Bye.”
Jeff hung up before Matt could reply and placed it on the table. He looked at Jamie who walked over to him and looped her arms around him and rested her chin on his chest, looking up at him.
“Everything’s ok?” she asked, as Jeff smiled at her.
“Yeah,” he said as he quickly placed a kiss on her lips, “I should actually get going though. I have a plane to catch in the morning and stuff.”
“Ok,” Jamie nodded a little disappointed, “I’ll walk your to the door.”
“Can I call you when I get back?” Jeff asked as they reached the door and he pulled on his jacket, “I really want to see you again.”
Jamie’s hear started to beat faster, “Yeah, of course. Give me a call as soon as you get in.”
Jeff smiled as he pulled Jamie into a hug, “I’ll be thinking of you while I’m away.”
Jamie rested her head on Jeff’s chest and took a deep breath. The smell of his cologne and leather from his jacket was something she wanted to remember forever.
She looked up at Jeff, “I’ll be thinking of you too.”
Jeff grinned as he kissed Jamie. She pulled away a few seconds later.
“If we start that again, you’re never gonna get home,” Jamie said with a giggle.
Jeff laughed, “You’re right, I’ll talk to you later.”
Jeff quickly kissed her on the cheek and walked out the door.
“Bye,” he called quickly as he jogged to his motorcycle.
“Bye,” she called after him, leaning on the door frame and watching him until the bike sped away so she could no longer see it. She sighed as she closed the door and went back into the house.
