Chapter 9

Jamie looked at the clock on the wall of her study as she heard the doorbell ring. It was 8 o’clock on a Thursday morning. She pushed back her computer chair as she sighed. She lifted her glasses off her eyes and pushed them back in her hair along with the messy blonde bun. She ran a hand down her side as she opened the door and her jaw dropped in surprise.

“Jeff!” she cried as she wrapped her arms around him. She felt his arms wrap around her and his warm breath on her neck.

“What are you doing here? I wasn’t expecting you back so soon,” Jamie said as she pushed away and cupped his face in her hands. Just like she remembered, so sincere and beautiful, just as she remembered.

“Matt actually just dropped me at my house,” Jeff said, “I couldn’t wait to see you. Did I wake you?”

Jamie looked down and realized what Jeff was talking about. She was wearing a pair of flannel pajama pants and an oversized hooded sweatshirt. She had no makeup on and her hair was pulled back in a messy bun.

“No,” Jamie answered ushering Jeff into the house, “I’ve actually been up all night working on an account.”

“Should I let you get back to work?” Jeff asked, as he started to grab his jacket.

“No,” Jamie answered with a smile, “I’m almost done and I deserve a break. Would you like some coffee or anything?”

“Sure,” Jeff said following her into the kitchen.

“I’m sorry the house is such a mess, I’ve been so busy with this account,” Jamie said as she picked up papers off the kitchen table, “and sorry I’m such a mess…”

“You look beautiful,” Jeff interrupted as he pushed a strand of her blonde hair behind her ear.

Jamie looked down and blushed, “I don’t even have any makeup on…”

“You look beautiful,” Jeff said cupping her face in his hands and kissed her softly on the lips.

Jamie smiled and pushed a strand of hair behind her ear, “thanks.”

Jeff grinned as he watched Jamie hop up and sit on the kitchen counter.

Jeff stepped in between her legs so they were face to face, “I did a lot of thinking on the plane actually.”

“You did?” Jamie asked, “About what exactly.”

“Us,” Jeff answered, “and about the other night.”

“I did too,” Jamie admitted, “and I wanted to talk to you about it.”

“Me first,” Jeff said taking her hand, “Jamie, I know we haven’t known each other too long, but that doesn’t change the way I feel. I want to be with you.”

Jamie’s heart jumped as Jeff said those words. An overwhelming sense of happiness filled her entire body as she stared at Jeff.

“I want to be with you too Jeff,” Jamie answered, “that’s what I wanted to tell you.”

Jeff pulled Jamie close to him in a hug and taking a deep breath. Jamie rested her chin on his shoulder and closed her eyes.

“Jamie?” Jeff said pulling back and staring into her eyes, “But there’s one thing…”

“What?” she asked nervously.

“You know how much wrestling means to me, it’s my life,” Jeff said, “and I want you to be involved with it.”

“Ok,” Jamie nodded, “Whatever you want me to do.”

“Come with me next week,” Jeff said smiling, “For the events. So you can meet everyone and see what such a huge part of my life is about.”

“I don’t know Jeff…” Jamie replied hesitantly.

“Please Jamie,” Jeff said squeezing her hand, “I really want you to be a part of my life.”

“Ok,” Jamie replied giving in, “Sure.”

Jeff grabbed Jamie and hugged her happily, lifting her off the counter and into his arms as she said those words. He placed her on the ground and kissed her.

Jamie sighed as the kiss ended. For some strange reason, she couldn’t shake the bad feeling she was having that something wasn’t going to go right.
