Conspiracy, coincidence, or neither?
The Early Edition & Strange Luck Coinciding Coincidences.
Gary Hobson receives tomorrows newspaper a day early.
Chance Harper has the strangest luck in the world.
What do these two have in common? Just take a look.
#1. Hero Complex.
Gary and Chance just can't ignore a person in need. If someone is going to commit
suicide, gets caught in a burning building, or is about to be shot it's safe to say
if either one of these guys is around they will do anything in their power to stop
it.
#2. Two close friends. (And on occasion a third.)
Chance Harper has Audrey Weston and Angie to pal around with, Gary Hobson hangs out
with Chuck Fishman and Marissa.
#3. "Right place, right time." (Or is that wrong place, wrong time?)
Hey, if Chance just saved your life and you ask him about it, he just might say "Right
place, right time." Gee, doesn't Gary say that alot too? As if they would tell
you the truth!
#4. You just can't leave the apartment without...
Gary always has his trusty paper with him, God forbid he put it down! Chance never
goes anywhere without his camera, God forbid he miss a photo op! Oh, not to mention
they almost always have one of their favorite coats on. (Chance's trench coat, Gary's leather jacket.)
#5. Hey good-lookin'...
Have you ever seen such cute leading men that just happen to be playing single guys
in their shows before? (Didn't think so!) I'm not going to delve into this to deep,
I might not come back up!
#6. Nice car.
Audrey Weston owns a very nice, expensive red convertible. Chuck Fishman has his
red Lexus. Yet, how often do Chance or Gary drive their friends cars?
#7. Police records.
Chance Harper has been arrested so many times he can do his own fingerprints in about
five seconds. Gary has several files about himself at the police station. Yet they
are always let go, you can't hold someone on account of being a hero!
#8. "Don't push your luck."
Chance could, if he chose to do so, win every contest he ever entered. Gary could've
stayed a stockbroker and made millions. When Chance was questioned as to why he
doesn't keep buying scratchers until he won the big prize, he just said, "I don't
want to push my luck." Gary also won't use the next days lottery numbers or track records
for personal gain. Why? Maybe it's just an extension of their Hero Complex. (This
could explain why they live in dinghy apartments and have small bank accounts.)
#9. Kind to kids.
This kind of comes with the territory. They both seem to like children to some point.
(And continuing on the note...)
#10. Family.
The whole underlining plot to Strange Luck was that his family died in a plane crash,
and he was the only one left. In Early Edition we know about Gary's mom & dad and
his ex-wife. In general we just happen to know alot about their family life, and
sometimes it plays a important point in the plot.
#11. "Thanks, but no thanks."
When you save someone's life, you expect them to be grateful. These guys are quite
modest, people shower them with thanks and it's usually, "Right place, right time."
(See #3!) However, sometimes they are met with resentment- even anger. At this point
our hero's get defensive- Sure their modest, but come on! They just saved a life,
a simple thank you would suffice!
#12. Hungry?
Chance's favorite hangout is The Blue Plate Diner, where Angie works. Gary now owns,
(Or at least manages) McGinty's. (Sports bar, part time restaurant.) At least they
won't go hungry!
Well, If this wasn't weird enough for you, here's one better. A closer comparison
between two episodes of the shows. (Keep in mind, all of the above still apply to
these too!)
Strange Luck- Trial Period: Chance gets summoned for jury duty.
Early Edition- The Jury: Gary gets summoned for jury duty.
#1. Flashes of incite.
While these are common on Early Edition, they also happened on this episode of Strange
Luck.
#2. Slightly obsessed female juror.
This is really funny. Chance had this lady sitting next to him that was really trying
to pick him up, and the same with Gary. (Well, what girl wouldn't try to pick up
these two?) Well, for starters, they are in the middle of a court case and that's
probably not the best place to try to get a date. (Especially seeing that the women
trying to pick up Chance was married! Oh no!) Speaking of which...
#3. Juror Number 4 & 5...
This is the most creepy thing out of it all. In Strange Luck Chance was juror number
5, and the woman that liked him was #4. In Early Edition it was the other way around!
Ahhhh!
#4. Hey, let's get some coffee.
At some point in Strange Luck, Chance and that lady that likes him go out for coffee.
At the end of EE, they go out for coffee.
#5. Please refrain from rescuing people...
Both the guys get in trouble for trying to defend the innocent people on trial, and
the others that are in over their heads in the episodes. (Recall the hockey stick
in EE and the weed-wacker guy in SL.) Oh, speaking of the weed-wacker...
#6. Nakedness!
This is messed up. Incidents of nakedness: The lady that likes Gary walks in on
Chuck when he was in the shower, thinking that Chuck was Gary. On Strange Luck the
weed-wacker guy was trashing a convenience store for candy bars- completely naked.
Something strange going on here...
#7. Late are we?
They both get in trouble for being late.
#8. "I believe he's innocent!" (Someone order lunch.. we're going to be here awhile.)
Gary was the only one who thought the guy was innocent, and went to great depths to
prove it. Chance did the same thing.
#9. And guess who was the only other person who believed him?
And the only people who agreed? The girls who had a crush on them. ("I think he
has a good point." "Gee, wonder why?")
#10. Weird Juries.
There were some interesting people on the juries with them.
#11. Pissed off Judges.
Oh boy, were they mad. At the end the judges were like, "If I ever see you again
I'm going to kill you." Well, maybe not that bad.
#12. Poor defense.
The defense in each of the cases was terrible! The guy on EE gave up and the defense
on SL was pathetic. (SL defense lawyer: "I can't believe the slurpie argument worked!")
Anyway, hoped you enjoyed. If you can find any other similarities I didn't, feel
free to add on to the list! -KJO.
