THE TITANIC PROJECT
Below is a list of changes that we know will be required, as of this time. Please read on to find out what and how we intend to implement these changes into the original design.
CHANGES AND ADDITIONS NECESSARY IN TITANIC
1. Sonar System - One of the safety systems most modern ships have today is the Sonar system. This is usually found in a bubble like apparatus, on the prow area of the ship, below the waterline. The sonar is meant to locate underwater obstructions such as sandbars, other small water craft, submarines, icebergs (such as the one that sunk Titanic), and especially growlers (terminology used for small icebergs that are for the most part barely above the surface of the water). As the new Titanic will be using the North Atlantic run, which is extremely hazardous due to the amount of icebergs and growlers found there, a sonar system will be needed for safety. Such a system will allow the ship to spot icebergs from far away, and avoid them. In order to avoid any structural changes to Titanic, which normally would be required, we intend to put the sonar system in the very forward part of the ship, in the most forward storage area. This part of the ship is the part which forms a triangle, where both sides of the ship meet, to form the prow. With this kind of a system, we'll be transmitting the sonar waves from inside the ship, thus eliminating the external sonar bubble.
2. Radar System- Another system that will be needed for safety will be a radar system. Obviously, Titanic never had a radar system, so it will have to be hidden. We intend to design a system that will fit inside of the crows nest, out of view. On the original Titanic, lookouts tried to spot icebergs from the crows nest, and on the new one, icebergs will still be spotted from the crows nest.
3. Modern Radio system- Titanic's main form of communication to the world was it's Marconi system. At that time it was the most modern and advanced system in the world. Today, the Marconi Telegraph system is ancient, and be of no use in communication. Thus a modern radio system will be necessary. The new system will be designed to look like Titanic's Marconi Telegraph, but will actually be a complete, modern system.
4. Fire proof Wood Sealer- Between 1900 - 1970's, many steamers were destroyed because of fires that broke out. Steamers like the Normandie,Queen Elizabeth, and countless others, suffered the same fates because of the amount of wood that made up their interiors. As a result of these, regulations have forbid ships to be fit out with that amount of wood. I intend to make the ship fire proof by coating all wood features (Of which there are a great many!!), with a clear, fire Proof sealer, making the wood fire proof.
TITANIC RECONSTRUCTED: DETAILS ON THE NEW SHIP
It has just recently been decided that the new ship will employ about the same number of people, as the original Titanic did. All in all, about 900 people will be employed by Thomas Andrews Trans-Atlantic Line, once the new ship has been completed. Included in that number will be an army of over 200 firemen, trimmers, and greasers, all necesary for the ship's propulsion. The Ship will be steam powered, just as Titanic was, fueled by coal.
Every detail about the ship will be meticulously recreated. Passengers will be able to ride the electric camels and mechanical horses in the gymnasium. Passengers will be able to go for a swim in the swimming pool (Titanic's swimming pool was the first swimming pool on a ship. It was open at various times for men, and at different times for women). If passengers wish to get different meals, than those served in the dining rooms, they can eat at the Verandah Cafe and Cafe Perisien (The Verandah Cafe boasts a lovely, live Palm court, where live Palm plants are growing). In addition, the ship boasts the Ala Carte Restraunt, a restraunt which will be independently run, not controlled by Thomas Andrews Trans-Atlantic Line (The Titanic's Ala Carte Restraunt had the same type of setup, with a controller, and it's own managers).
The ship's maiden voyage will be on April 10th, 2012, to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Titanic's Maiden voyage. On that historic day, she will begin her life as a Monument and memorial to the victims of the Titanic tragedy. She will sail the same route as Titanic had planned, with a memorial service on April 15th, at 2:00 AM as we reach the spot Titanic went down. The voyage will end on Wednesday, April 17th, with a triumphant entry into New York. The ship will complete the voyage Titanic never finished, and continue Titanic's legacy. After the Maiden Voyage, the ship will continue to cross the Atlantic, from Southampton to New York and vice versa.
