Custom 300 WBY MK5 Magnum.

Note:

The stock design is such to reduce felt recoil. The drop at heel (white dot) is only a halve inch below the center of the bore.

This will transfer the recoil in a very straight line and produces very little uplift. A big drop at the heel will have a lot of uplift and slam the comb into your face and that can be as bad as recoil.

The pitch is about 2" for me. Pitch is a line 2" above the muzzle to the top of the rear end of the receiver. 90 deg to that line is the face of the recoil pad. For barrel chested men and women Pitch should be more, as much as 4" for women.

Pitch is another important measurement because the angle should be as close as possible to your shoulder slope and the way you hold the rifle.

The cheek piece has a forward slope, so the rifle will recoil away from your face. The forward point is at a height for the bolt to clear when al the way to the rear. The check piece is also sloped to the side to clear a cleaning rod.

The above rifle has a 4X Leupold scope that has a 4.5" eye relief. The 4x is more than adequate for big game hunting and fast for quick shot with a big field of view. This rifle can be comfortable fired in a prone position without getting your eyebrows decorated. It is best when shooting prone to have the rifle at a 45-degree angle from your bodyline center. At this angle there is some sideways give in your shoulder. Hold the rifle firm with both hands and relax your body.

Above rifle weighs 8.5 lbs. Load is 81.0 gr. H4831 with a 180-gr Hornady Interlock bullet with about 3100 ft/MV. from a 24" barrel. The rifle produces 32.6 ft/lbs. of recoil energy.
