The IMF conducts an annual award program to recognize the achievements of its members. From October 15th through December 31, we accept nominations for recognition in a number of categories. The Executive Board reviews submittals and announces honorees in January. The Board will also recognize one member as Martial Artist of the Year and other special awards as merited. Each honoree receives a special hand drawn certificate similar to the deluxe rank certificate. Nominations will be accepted for these categories:

Instructor of the Year
Senior Student of the Year
Junior Student of the Year

How to apply

Instructor of the Year - Applicants should submit (1) martials arts resume; (2) at least 3 letters of reference from students and/or parents of students; and (3), if possible, video (VHS only please) footage (15-30 minutes) of him/her instructing classes if possible. Reference letters should describe the applicant's teaching methods, communication skills, rapport with students, knowledge of martial arts and school atmosphere.

Senior Student of the Year - The instructor should submit a letter of reference for the nominee. The letter should describe the student's physical and mental qualities, leadership skills, knowledge of martial arts and tournament performances (if applicable). This category honors senior students in under dan ranks or with dan rank.

Junior Student of the Year - The instructor should submit a letter of reference for the nominee. The letter should describe the student's physical and mental qualities, knowledge of martial arts and tournament performances (if applicable). This category honors junior students in under dan ranks.
