Christmas Comes and goes and the daily practices continue. It's New Years Eve and Kates father throws a holiday bash where Doug is becoming quite popular with all the ladies in attendance but Kate's boyfriend is also a guest and Kate knows that she is developing a fondness for her skating partner. In this next picture, Kate is shown standing next to her boyfriend. She is watching the other ladies present at the party who are showing a bit of fondness for Doug . Kate does not like what she sees. Do we detect a bit of jealousy here behind that bittersweet smile of hers?
Kate and Doug just keep getting better and better together. They go on to the Nationals Figure Skating and ultimately on to the Olympics. Neither will admit to the other, their feelings. Kate accepts her boyfriend's marriage proposal with definite second thoughts and in this next photo you will notice that it is affecting her relationship with her fiance Hale. He knows it and so does she. The engagement is now off. The bitterness in her expression is denial combined with the fact that she definitely is falling for her skating partner.
The Figure Skating Nationals: Kate's engagement off and now she is actually starting to enjoy skating with her partner. In this next photo The Pair (Moira & Doug) have just landed side by side double axels(a difficult move) and look at her face light up.
They do go on to come in second in the Nationals and that assures them a spot on the U. S. Olympics team. The couple celebrate and Kate has a bit too much to drink. So much that she throws herself at Doug in a suggestive manner but even the crass Hockey Player has the decency to tell her that she is not in her right mind and walks away.
Moira can even play the part of a drunk quite well. Look at this next picture as she falls backwards a bit and you'll have to agree that this Lovely actress is truly versatile.
As the Olympics quickly approaches Kate and Doug must work on a move that needs the complete trust in each other. They have 5 weeks to prepare it but after the past incident ( Kate drunk) the two are back to the way it was. They are working together just for the chance at Olympic Gold. The doubts are back. Deep down, these two really are falling in love but hell hath not the fury of a woman scorned.
These last photos show Kate at her best. In the first she is regretting the vicious streak in her and of all things: Kate Mosley is apologizing for her past behavior. The second photo is when Doug finally takes the initiative and tells Kate that he is in Love with her. The third speaks for itself.
Yes Moira, You are just the best and THE CUTTING EDGE proves it.
This particular version of the movie came out on home video in January 1999. My advice is Go Rent it or buy it. I am pretty sure that you won't regret it.
