Snowed in

Well, more or less. And I think I’m really only snowed in because they’ve yet to really do a thorough plowing job of this place. I went out at about eleven this morning to dig out my car but discovered that they had only plowed a very narrow path through the parking lot.

There were a couple of parking spots that had been cleared so I moved to one of those, figuring the plow would be back to clear the rest of the spaces. But that never happened. So to get to the cars you have to slog through about ten inches of snow.

I’ve decided to skip rehearsal tonight as I’m afraid that when I come back in at ten there won’t be anywhere to park and I’ll break a bone climbing through the snow in the dark parking lot.

Cowardly of me, but them’s the breaks.

We really did end up getting quite a bit of snow. On top of what was already a goodly amount. This is the first storm since April 1, 1999 that caused school to be cancelled, though. The storms that we’d had thus far were all on weekends or at times that didn’t effect the commute.

This one just kept on going. And from what I understand some areas farther west got about 25 inches of snow. I’m so glad we missed that.

The call telling me that school was cancelled came at five o’clock this morning, so I got up and called the next person on the snow chain, took some migraine medicine and went back to bed. I had the early signs of a migraine starting, so I was so glad to be able to take the pills and then just go back to bed. They tend to knock me out a bit, but they did prevent a full-blown migraine.

I’ve had a slight headache and fuzzy eyes through the day, but as long as I keep taking Advil I’m managing to keep it bearable.

I have this weird quirky thing about snow cancellations. Even though I get a call, which has been started by the principal, I still have to turn on the news and see the name of the school system roll by on the cancellation list before I’m secure. You’d think that after twenty-five years of teaching that I’d get over it.

I didn’t do too much today. I spent some time putting away some stamping stuff, and getting rid of bags and boxes that have been in my way for far too long, but that was about all I did. Oh I did manage to vacuum as well.

The boys were wrestling last night, and there were lots of little clumps of black fur around. I think that’s my biggest challenge of having this longhaired cat - keeping the fur from covering every surface.

Tonight I’d like to cut the foam core for my mother’s card and see if I can get that dealt with.

I feel a little guilty about not going to rehearsal. Now that we’re a small chorus every voice counts more than ever, but I guess they’ll just have to do what they can. I’m not sure I like being in a small chorus again, but I’m staying for the time being.

I started out in a small chorus, so I’ve been in this situation before. The hardest part is that I have to take on more jobs than I had planned, but it’s one of the things that goes with being in a smaller group.

So I cried through the ending of Ally McBeal last night. I’m not surprised that I did. I really do hope that Robert Downey signs on for more episodes!

So crying through Ally got me all wound up and I ended up crying through parts of the documentary about the 1980 Olympic hockey team. It was on HBO and was very well done. I remember how excited we all were about the team and the kids beating the Russian professionals.

I love the Olympics. I wish there were more things like that to watch on television. That’s the kind of reality television that I like. I just can’t get into all those things like "Survivor" and "Temptation Island".
