While he was a senior at Madison High School in San Antonio, Texas, Jared Padalecki was named a candidate in the year 2000 Presidential Scholars Program. (Candidates were selected from nearly 2.8 million students expected to graduate from high schools in the year 2000). But this was not his first brush with glory.
Jared started taking acting lessons when he was twelve years old, and then went on to enter and win the 1999 Claim to Fame contest, sponsered by the Teen Choice Awards and Niketown. His prize was handing out the trophy/surfboards at the 1999 Teen Choice Awards. He was apparently very pshyched to meet Jennifer Love Hewitt. After winning, he was pursued by talent and modeling agencies and is now represented by the same manager as Freddie Prinze Jr. His first big role was a part in a TV pilot called Silent Witness, but he doesn't think the show will be picked up by the networks. He also appeared in an ER episode as a car crash victim. He is currently shooting a movie called "A Little Inside" which will be out next year.
