Halloween Foosball News 'N Notes

What ever happened to the Fall?

The Big Surprise that was discussed in this space yesterday was an unexpected return trip to Lowell on Tuesday for James Ostis. Jim returned home, and after playing tricks on several family members got down to the business of the reason he went there--Practicing Foosball. In that regard he felt it was a tremendous success, winning all games he played (except for a quick "game up to one" im which he lost to Steve.) The most memorable victory came against Steve in the last game that was played Tuesday night, Steve got off to a 9-7 lead, but facing game point, Jim didn't let in another goal and took the game, 11-9 in overtime.

"I felt good. I felt like I was much more used to the new table than over the weekend." Jim said, "I felt a huge improvement in the goaltending department which I feel is going to be a key difference-maker with this new table, and especially in the tournament on Saturday."

As of right now, Jim is back in Boston, tending to school matters and taping the Six Day Countdown show. But before leaving Lowell, he made a brief cameo appearance at the Bartlett Middle School. He discussed Drew Bledsoe & The World Series with Miss Almeida and also visited Mr. Cyr (who the Mr Cyrs football team is named after) and Mr. Souza (who was showing no signs of the injury from Alfred.) Overall the 2/3 of a day excursion was good for Jim. "It felt like a short weekend, now it feels like a monday, only this week will be just three days long." The only bad part about the trip back to Lowell is forgetting his cell phone.

Steve went out and bought Mr. Deeds on Tuesday. The movie was good, but when it was coupled with problems with the PS2, the DVD was scratched. Hopefully the problems with the PS2 have been rectified and the DVD will be replaced.

You can also count Steve among the people irked by Greg's comments (seen in yesterday's News). He would only say "Greg is going DOWN!" Greg has yet to defend his comments and some speculate that he hasn't even heard the public outcry against his idea of making the foosball website a place of public mokery among his fraternity.

If the Tournament today, this is the type of weather that would be termed "detrimental to the players well being & ability to compete in the foosball tournament." The rain/snow by itself is not a big problem...nor is it being very cold outside, but when they are combined, those are definitely not ideal conditions. Weather.com's forecast still calls for possible showers on Saturday. No discussion has been brought up but could the football game occur in the middle of the HFT? Moving up the first round matches due to weatherly concerns is a possibilty, but a slim one. "I still hope to hold the football game in the afternoon before the tournament, and then going on to hold the HFT as we did last year, with only the doubles tournament finals which splits up the round of 8 and the round of 4."

Wilson is very pleased to make it so far in the 2002 Virtual Halloween Foosball Tournament. He's looking to knock out Greg and move into the final four as most everyone has forgiven him concerning the controversial voting war of 2001. We all still remember when the war got really ugly and balls of crumpled notebook paper were used as projectiles in Mrs. Peters' Calculus class. Remember you only have until midnight tonight to vote in the VHFT's Elite 8.

Work is being done on The Halloween Foosball Tournament Music Soundtrack Volume 2. Although many of the classical tournament songs are on the original, which came out last year, this year will feature some new ones,(players' "theme songs") as well as a salute to the HFT's past which a selection of Halloween-related songs which bring some us back to a time even before there was a Foosball Tournament.

I've talked about it many times, yet a lot of you still haven't voted. So here it is on the side of this page (hopefully it works)...The famous "hardest poll ever"

Look, we're getting fancy now... polls on the side
