The New King of Foosball! Steve Ostis shocked the foosball world, not only by winning the royal crown of foosball Saturday morning, but also in the manner of how he ended with the victory.
Steve faced the former new king of foosball, Greg Ouellette in a best of 7 series for the foosball crown. Greg, who spent the entire morning bragging about his two Halloween Foosball Tournament victories back in the mid-90's and badmouthing James Ostis on his lack of title defenses for the Cans. The series vs. Steve was the first defense of Greg's title since he defeated Jim for the crown in the summer.
Steve got off to a 3-1 series lead and Greg abruptly quit. The once proud champion was reduced to a quitter and forfeited his share of the new Foosball "triple crown".
That was the 3rd title change of the morning, actually, as Keith Ouellette really shocked the world in a fluke victory over Jim for the Cans title. In an immediate rematch, Jim proved his superioty by laying down a gauntlet for himself to face, and winning it. Jim promised to win 4 games in a row against Keith and did so, winning decidedly by at least 4 goals in each contest to once again become the Undisputed Champion of the Cans.
Jim was willing to defend the cans in a title vs. title match against Greg, but is now rethinking that. "I don't want to give Greg a title shot after all he proved was he was nothing but a quitter." There are currently no plans for a title unification match against Steve. Jim is a three time holder of the Cans trophy and also the Cowboy titleholder.
Steve, meanwhile, is proud of holding the "Royal crown of Foosball". There are talks of him facing Corey Pinkham for the crown somewhere down the road. It was when Jim beat Corey that the term "New King of Foosball" was coined. That title became known as the Royal crown. Steve and Corey have met in the past two Halloween finals, with each taking one victory.
