Before we look at what the gospel is we must first know that the Bible is the Word of God, some people say It contains the Word of God you can pick and choose what you want, Jesus said:

Luke 4:4 And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.

And Peter wrote

2 Timothy 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

Scripture must be taken in the context in which it is written, you must read what is before and after, and know what, how, where, when, and who, the Old Testament say we are sinners and are in need of a savior, the four Books of the Gospel say He has come and what He did, He told the Apostles what to do and say, the Book of Acts show how they carried out His instructions, what the Apostles preached, how people were saved, born again of water and Spirit, the Epistles are to those who were already saved and in the church.

What is the Gospel

What was the first message Jesus preached after he was tempted in the wilderness

Mark 1:
14 ¶ Now after that John was put in prison, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God,
15 And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.

Repentance was the first message recorded that Jesus preached, when he started his ministry. Repentance must be an important part in the plan of salvation.

Paul explains that the Gospel is The Death, Burial and Resurrection of Jesus Christ.

1Corinthians 15:
1 ¶ Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;
2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.
3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

He explains to how it was applied to those who were already saved, they were buried with him in baptism, this indicates that water baptism is a burial in water not a sprinkling.

Romans 6:
1 ¶ What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?
2 God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?
3 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?
4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
5 For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection:
6 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.
7 For he that is dead is freed from sin.
8 Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him:

Jesus said you must be born of water and Spirit.

John 3:3-7; 14-19
3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
4 Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born?
5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
7 Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.

14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up:
15 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.
16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.

We must be born again of water and of the Spirit or we will not see the Kingdom of God, and not enter !!!!! So we must find out how they were born again of water and Spirit in the first century church!!!!

It started in Jerusalem
