The history and development of sweethearts is closely intertwined in the history of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity. This is how it all began:

The Organization, formerly known as National Silhouettes came into existence because of a need. Many wives accompanied their husbands
to the Grand Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi and found themselves alone and in need of activities to fill their time. Later, the Kappas asked
their wives to act as hostesses and plan activities for visiting wives and children. Many such groups remained together and organized permanent
groups, calling themselves "Kappa Wives" or Kappa Alpha Psi Silhouettes".

In Columbus, Ohio in the year 1945, at the 35th Conclave of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. a need for a National Organization for Silhouettes
was felt. The first chairperson of this effort was Mrs. Willa Ranson of New York. Mrs. Ransom asked the New York Silhouettes to host a meeting
where organizational plans could be discussed. An announcement of the meeting was put in the Kappa Alpha Psi Journal. On December 31, 1946,
a group met at the home of Mrs. Harold L. Edgehill of New York for the purpose of laying groundwork for the formation of the National
Organization of Kappa Silhouettes. At this meeting, the committee present suggested the formal name of Kappa Alpha Psi Silhouettes.

It was decided that the group would elect officers at the California meeting in 1947. Their were volunteers from Philadelphia, PA. Detroit, MI,
Topeka, KS. Columbus, OH. and New York, NY. to serve on the committee. The formal organization of Kappa Silhouettes became official in
August of 1947, at the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity,Inc., Conclave in Los Angeles, California.

Beta Theta Sweethearts 1950

The first inceptions of the organization was started by the wives and girlfriends of the members of Kappa Alpha Psi. These women were known
as sweethearts because they were originally the sweethearts of the members. Though having no official status or organizations, these women aided
the members of the various chapters in various service and social status dating back to the first annual Kappa party held at the frat house on
May 19-21,1911.
Sweethearts from Pi Chapter in the late 1950's

Latter in the development of Kappa Alpha Psi, the undergraduate chapters started initiation of "little sisters" and calling them "Sweethearts."
These organizations were under complete control of the members of that chapter and had little or no organization between the members. This
type of little sister organization only purpose was to support the brothers of the chapter with which they were associated. Several different names
were used by in general they were still the same organization. Such names were Kappa Kittens, Kappa Diamonds, and Kappa Karnations.

Epsilon Gamma 1972

These type of organization flourished until the late 1980's. Due to the directives sent down from the Grand Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi,
the undergraduate chapters were instructed to disband their little sister organizations. To fill the void and provide direction for themselves,
these women started their own organization that were controlled and directed soley by themselves. Because the majority or the members
were former Sweethearts, they still existed such a close association with the brothers of Kappa Alpha Psi. Many organizations took various
names and have evolved from the Kappa Sweethearts (Krimson Kourt,Inc., Sweethearts,Inc., Pretty Girls, Inc., Kappa Kourt,Inc., etc.),
but essentially they all have the same goals and ideals from their common foundation in the history of Kappa Alpha Psi.

DISCLAIMER:

SOME CHAPTERS OF KAPPA ALPHA PSI FRATERNITY, INC DOES NOT LEGALLY RECOGNIZE SO-CALLED "LITTLE SISTER"
GROUPS (KAPPA DIAMONDS, KAPPA SWEETHEARTS, ETC). THE ONGOING ROLE OF KAPPA BROTHERS AS THEY RELATE
TO SUCH GROUPS ARE TO GIVE THEM ADVICE AND DIRECTION, AS THEY WOULD ANY OTHER ORGANIZATION THAT MAY
WISH TO WORK WITH THEM, BUT NOT TO PARTAKE IN THE INTERNAL ACTIVITIES OF THESE ORGANIZATIONS IN ANY RESPECT.

Some famous well-known Sweethearts

Today, these organizations still exist in various forms and names, but as seperate entities from Kappa Alpha Psi.
Their continued existence is a testimony to the usefulness of these type to organizations both to the campus and
communities they serve and the women that are apart of them.

Epsilon Nu Poem

In the beginning of time, from Adam came Eve,
over the years brains and beauty came to her with ease,
with sugar and spice we knew this was the start,
in the eyes of EPSILON NU, we envision the Kappa Sweetheart.

Sweeter than sugar and more valuable than gold,
gorgeous as a Diamond, that you would love to hold,
she has beauty and grace, and is always discrete,
I know you ladies would love to be a K-Sweet.

So with Diamonds in the sky and Hearts by our sides,
now we know why men envy Kappa Alpha Psi!!!
so with this in mind, player haters you can compete,
being unique and complete, Damn!!!
It feels good to be a K-SWEET.
