FEDERALISM

Biding, here's the new make up of your Federalism page. I customized it so that you can easily access the pages of the linked articles. This means that I downloaded the pages, then pasted it to your own website and created an html file for it. Those links that are not articles in nature, I left them as a link to the page or site since you will have to browse through it. I did this so that you will save time, and effort surfing. This is also intended for safe surfing, fast surfing, economical surfing, and you can download it easily. These links can be accessed through clicking or right clicking the first word of the said link. Like the second article, you will find federalism in underline, this means it has a link too. The process is the same, just click on the links, and you will find the article. Enjoy. -- kuya

http://www.mb.com.ph/OPED/Elbin/2000/jm000529.asp -- Federalism will be another reverse act
FILIPINOS do things in reverse. We were the most proficient English-speaking Asians. But we've begun discarding it. We can't help it. We'll lose the whole of it soon. Even now, most young people aren't conversant with it. The 3rd-grade niece of my househelp can read Filipino books, but can't read, much less understand, a single word of English.
Our politicians will do another reverse act - the folly of federalism. The Republic has always been a whole entity despite its archipelagic formation. For prosaic reasons, they now want to divide it into separate states. In other countries, independent states were brought into one federal system. Here, we divide the country into federal states.

At the escalation of the Moro rebellion early in June, I brought out in this column the old dream of statesmen of yore, for a Federal Republic, as the only possible solution to the Bangsa Moro agitation for an independent Islamic State. Unless we agree to cede part of the country to accede to the Moros' demand for separation, the only possible compromise is a federal system where a federal state may run its own system of government.
