I've been a single mom for 10 out of the 20 years I've been a parent. Putting it mildly, my life is somewhat challenging. It primarily revolves around not having enough money to support myself and my four kids, and never getting a chance to indulge in what is commonly referred to as "rest."
Longing for a reprieve from the million-and-one things I need to do at all hours of the day and night, I often find myself dreaming about being able to call a supportive spouse on his cell phone to ask, "Could you please stop by the store on your way home from work and grab a jug of milk and some maxi-pads?" I realize it would make more sense to dream about winning the lottery, but, such are the workings of the single mom's brain.
A healthy sense of humor helps. In fact, it's essential. (Mine takes vitamins.) Being able to laugh at myself, and feeling like my kids are the best things that ever happened to me and the rest of the universe, are what make it possible for me to face yet another bizarre day on this planet.
My goal for this website is to, hopefully, provide a little levity and insight to single moms whose lives are as challenging as mine. You know who you are: The word 'struggling' holds the number one spot on the first page of your personal dictionary. Next come 'stress,' 'fatigue,' 'worry,' and 'destitute,' in no particular order. (I try to keep 'anger' out of my top five, due to its inherent tendency to become megalomaniacal.)
