Gollum

Gollum, other wise known as Smeagol, was once one of the river folk. Long ago the One Ring was lost in the mud of the River Anduin, and there it lay undisturbed for thousands of years. Until one day Smeagol and his friend Deagol were fidhing. Deagol hooked a great fish which pulled him from the boat and into the river. When he surfaced Deagol had in his hand a golden ring. Smeagol and Deagol faught over the ring and when Deagol refused to give it to him, Smeagol strangled him and stole the Ring away. Deep into the mountains Smeagol fled, the power of the ring worked its evil on Smeagol, making him fearful and a bit insane. He was known as the creature Gollum. The Ring also gave Gollum unnaturally long life, for almost 500 years he kept the ring, calling it his precious.
