These two hobbits joined Frodos adventure purely by chance when they met him while they were stealin some of Farmer Maggots Crop.
The two hobbits have proved their valour many times in the number of battles which the fellowship have faced.
They were captured by the evil Uruk-hai despite the brave and heroic efforts of Boromir. Later however they were rescued and taken into the care of Treebeard the mighty Ent who, along with the other Ents, they persuaded to attack that tower of Isenguard due to the tearing down of the trees of Fangorn Forest who the Ents love and care for.
