Ember's Family

text Cutter Kinseeker, Blood of Ten Chiefs

Not only is Cutter Ember's father and predecessor in the chief's line, he is also her mentor and rolemodel. For a while after she first got her chief's lock, Ember was obsessed with being a chief exactly like him. "What would father do?" was a common basis for her reasoning. She even tried to learn to use a troll sword, just because he knew how to. Her obvious admiration of Cutter has been present all her life, although it waned for a while during her adolescent years when they got into a few spats, notably over her going to visit Sorrow's End. Cutter has always tried to prepare Ember to be a good chief and a good wolfrider, even when they lived in the desert. The two have a very close realtionship, and it has often been commented that they are very much alike.

text Leetah, Healer of the Sun Folk

Ember's mother, and, during the trying first few moons of her chiefhood, one of her staunchest supporters. Leetah has always been there for her daughter with a kind word or gentle reassurance when she needs it most. She has saved Ember's life twice that we have seen in the comic books, has given her the freedom she needs, and hasn't allowed Ember's mortality to come between them, as could be expected from her former wish to remove Cutter's wolfblood. Ember's growth and confidence were nertured greatly by Leetah throghout her life, and she wouldn't be the same wonderful chieftess we know and love without her.

Sunstream (formerly Suntop)

As her twin, Ember is linked more deeply to Sunstream than any other member of her family. It has been said that though not physically present, Ember was with Cutter, Leetah, Rayek, and (at that time) Suntop when they defeated Winowill, through her spiritual connection to him. Even now that the two of them live miles apart, well outside of sending range, they can communicate mentally despite the fact that Ember lacks the ability to "go out" and meet him on the spiritual plane. All previous communications outside of normal sending limits had required both to have this skill. Like all siblings, even (especially?) very close ones, Ember and Sunstream can grate on each other's nerves. As children, the squabbled quite a bit, their name-calling eventually turning into their affectionate nicknames for one another ("Cloud-Head" for Sunstream and "Pest" for Ember). Growing up, Ember was often jealous of her brother because he got attention and special treatment as a magic-user, while she was just a little chief-in-waiting. Since she has come into her birthright, however, this no longer seems to be an issue. Very different but very close, Ember and Sunstream are lucky to have each other.

Teir Wolf-Father

Ember's lifemate... at last! Teir emerged into Ember's life out of nowhere, a fascinating enigma that drew her first because of her chief's duty to discover his identity, and second through the urgings of her own heart. Teir and Ember have been through a lot together. Teir broke his own code for using his animal-magic at Howling Rock to save her life; a sacrifice not made lightly. When she issued her heartbreaking ultimatum that he choose healing or tribe, he was able to forgive, and the two did not have to part in anger over what she saw as duty to her tribe. Their reunion and subsiquent rocky courtship tested both to their limits, but in the end formed a love so strong that he elected self-exile rather than live without her. His incredible devotion is part of what gives Ember the strength to be the person and leader she is, and we love him for it (though from a distance, of course!).
