John Steinbeck tries to tell the readers how migrant people had hard time during the Great Depression. Their struggle for work, food, and most of all, humane life was very strong. However those desires couldn't come true. Thus those struggles and desires became wrath, since those were not possible for them, migrant peoples. The book "The Grapes of Wrath" and "The Harvest Gypsies" are based on the people's struggles.

Migrant people had no choice but to work.

ex) "The Grapes of Wrath" p592- "And if no work-no money, no food."

It was hard for the migrant people to find jobs.

ex) "The Grapes of Wrath" p479- Tom Joad says "...Puts a weight on ya. Goin' out lookin' for somepin' you know ain't gonna find."

It was not only that, but also it was hard to get their lives going with so much low pay.

ex1) "The Grapes of Wrath" p557- "More men picking, quicker to the gin."

ex2) "The Harvest Gypsies"

chp1- "...at Nipomo last year when twelve hundred workers arrived to pick the pea crop only to find it spoiled by rain."

They were so frustrated.

ex1) "The Grapes of Wrath"

p591- "The children cried with hunger, and there was no food."

ex2) "The Harvest Gypsies"

chp2- "Now he has lost even the desire to talk."

Their desires and struggles became wrath.

ex) "The Harvest Gypsies"

chp2- "Dignity is all gone, and spirit has turned to sullen anger before it dies."
