The Silver Swan is a color mutation of the Austrailian Black Swan. It is not a result of hybridization with Mute Swans which does produce a silver-looking (but un-attactive) bird. It originally occured in the collection of Jean Delacour (world famous ornithologist) in France. During World War II the individuals were destroyed, but after the war was over he began to breed this unusual color again. Since then, some silver birds have been produced in the United States and I have two large adult Silver Swan cobs paired up with productive black females which will hopfully produce some splits this season.
