Narrative of a Runaway
up from the bed
pushing from her wrists
holding back her tears
she opens her drawers
picks up her pants
puts them in her schoolbag
takes her papers out
tossing them onto the floor
leaving them for mother
she zips up the bag
hoists it onto her shoulders
sets a note in her scrawl
on the counter with the bread
and lays a wrench on top
mother likes to leave the door open
lets a breeze in all day
turns towards the door
breathes goodbye
chest heaving she is leaving
