Matt and I first met when we were freshmen in high school. He was in a play, South Pacific, and I was doing the sound effects for it. We quickly became good friends. However, due to the fact that he lived five miles away in a different town (long way huh??) and because neither one of us was old enough to drive, we lost touch shortly after the play ended. When we were juniors we were reacquainted. We both tried out for the play, Hello, Dolly!. Matt was cast as Ambrose Kemper and I was in the chorus. We had a great time and were a couple by the end of the play. This time though we could drive! We became practically inseperable. Great for us but I think we drove other people nuts!! When my mom moved to Ohio I was able to stay with Matt's family for our senior year. Matt lived in the basement and I lived on the second story with his sister Jenni. We saw each other in the middle! We were together constantly and in November Matt asked me to marry him. It was the night of our fall formal. Now I knew it was coming but it was supposed to be on my birthday in December. This was November. We went to the Olive Garden for dinner before the dance. Poor Matt was so nervous he hardly ate a thing. I kept asking if he wsa ready to go, finally he got down on one knee and proposed! I about fainted. Of course I said yes and we were on cloud nine!
Everyone said we were so foolish when we got to the dance but we didn't care. We were in love. We were nervous about telling our parents though. When we got home we told his mom and she said "ok when?" We said July 4, 1994. I think she was a little bit shocked because she was very calm and took it well. My mom and dad also took it better than we thought. I think maybe they thought we weren't as serious as we were. But lo and behold we were serious and as everyone was making graduation plans we were doing graduation plans AND wedding plans. We graduated high school June 9,1994 and got married July 4, 1994. We were young and we may have been foolish but we will never regret getting married at our age. We get to grow up and grow old together and it is a blast!
