Brandon Youth - Minutes - Thursday, January 29th, 2004

Monthly meetings will now be held on Thursdays at 4:30 p.m. for an hour.

Current Project:
Being involved with the Winter Festival in Brandon by putting up 7 Box O’Mittens at the different community centres that are participating in the Festival and then donate the articles to the Samaritan House or other not-for-profit groups. Prizes will be awarded based on a draw. People will insert their tag (1 tag/item) in the item and then on our Feb. 12th meeting we will make the draws and contact the winners.

Report on Actions:
Tanya: we have all 7 pavilions wanting to participate with us for our Box O Mitten Drive. Tanya will drop off the boxes next week and pick them up the following week.

Breena and Allison: the noon day show was a success and as a group we watched their video taping. They plan to go on both Star/CKLQ and Hot 101/KX96 next week on the morning show to promote the event.

Allison: she is well underway on donations and realized that it is quite difficult to get donations without a letter so perhaps we will send a letter next time we do this. She will follow up with all the organizations after to thank them for their donations.

Breena: will work on a new website on Angel Fire with “Brandon Youth” as part of the name - she is still working on the site.

Actions:
Caitlin & Kaytey: put together the draw tickets incl. name and phone number
- make poster for advertising our Box O Mittens to distribute around town (Tanya can help photocopy)
- make poster for explaining the rules of the Box O Mittens and bring everything to Tanya ASAP (before Wednesday as she will be distributing boxes by 1:30 p.m. that day.)

Breena: would like everyone to write one paragraph about themself and send that and a picture to her on the website e-mail. She is also going to write a little bit about who we are as Brandon Youth to use for the website and for our volunteer day.

Kaytey: will work on the survey for our Feb.14th day at the mall. The survey will help us to determine “what do youth want to see in Brandon?”

Everyone: think about what we want to do for the Saturday, February 14th volunteer day in the mall. Tentatively Caitlin can work 9-5 and Kaytey can work 5-9 but please let me know if others are available so we can make the shifts shorter. Some ideas include: banner from Kids in Bloom, picture of the group, picture of the Noon Day Show, sign up sheets for new members, information on what we are about, put up everything for on a display board, include our website and candy hand outs.

Tanya: will gather items for Feb. 14th so we can put it together at our Feb.12th meeting. She will also contact the facilitator to confirm the Path Process for March 4th or March 11th. That meeting will be as mandatory as we possibly can have. The process will take 2 hours, we will have pizza and drinks but it is very important that we are all there so we can truly determine our focus and identify goals in reaching our focus.

The group decided that we wanted to go ahead with the PATH process (planning alternatives for tomorrow with hope) and that we would like a professional logo based on the logos submitted and Breena’s concept of who we are. Everyone is welcome to send me info. about ideas (words, pictures) for the logo so we can send it onto the graphic designer.

Following meeting: March 4th or March 11th , 4:30 p.m. in Community Services Meeting Room - Please RSVP. Please let me know which day is better as we will have a facilitator come in that day. I will need to know by our Feb.12th meeting at the latest so I can let the facilitator know.
