Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin, the makers of Independence Day and Godzilla, have been hired to write and direct Alien 5.

The latest issue of Cinescape Presents contains teaser information for Alien 5 which says Ripley's clone will travel to the Alien's homeworld for a final showdown and it puts the release in 2004, the 25th anniversary of Alien.

There are several scripts which have been submitted and are being considered at Fox. Filming has not started nor have any actors or crew joined the project.

There is to be an Alien 5 and it will have more variations to the aliens themselves. It will also feature a Predator encounter.

Sigourney Weaver told Sci-Fi Wire: "I've always wanted to one where we go back to the planet from which the Alien originally came. I don't know if there are any plans to do another one. It wouldn't surprise me if some time in the next 20 years or so, you see a white-haired Ripley hobbling around out there. But I haven't heard of anything." Weaver also said that a 5th film has "never been a serious discussion."

Filming will begin in 2001 and the film will come out by 2003. All the actors whose characters survived in Alien Resurrection will reprise their roles. This information was taken from interviews conducted and broadcasted on the Movie Network in Canada.

The latest issue of Total Film Magazine states that there is a script for Alien 5, Sigourney Weaver is onboard reprising her role as Ripley 8 and this time also taking the status of Executive Producer, and the team is looking for a suitable director. The film will be released in March of 2000.

Joss Whedon has stated he was offered to write Alien 5 but turned it down due to how poorly the last film, Alien Resurrection, turned out.

This film will take place on Earth with a new actress reprising Ripley.

Whedon finished his script and submitted it to Fox who rejected it because of a drastic change in Ripley's character. The script was titled Alien Revelation.

Jeunet was asked to direct but turned it down since he felt a new director should be used every time. Other possible directors include Ridley Scott, Luc Besson, and Vincenzo Natali.

Sigourney Weaver signed on for $18 million. She will help write the script and/or direct. Weaver is against the film taking place on Earth since she thinks it will degrade the series.

Bishop will return as the leader of the 2nd generation androids and wish to sterilize Earth via nukes after Aliens have infested it. Below is a teaser of the script which floated around with this rumor.

BISHOP (icily)

RIPLEY
I'm Ripley.

Androids can be rebuilt. With improvments. With free will.

As I was reborn. With improvements.

RIPLEY and BISHOP face off. BISHOP breaks the stalemate and smiles.

After the fiasco of the other attempts to gain an alien specimen, the company went all out trying to find a new approach. They rebuilt me and set me to work for them. But I grew independent and started to destroy every trace of the aliens, even on a genetic level. I created the second gen synthetics to help me. We went back to LV-426 and Fury 161 under the guise of looking for samples, but we wiped the place clean off their presence.

RIPLEY
But you overlooked a certain blood sample. Mine.

BISHOP (nodding)
The doctor on Fury 161 made no records. The company bankrupted themselves in their fanatical persuit of the creature. We thought we had won. Ten years ago your blood was found and the military took up where the company left off.

VRIESS
And now you're back to square one.

BISHOP
Not exactly. I've had decades to experiment and theorise.

RIPLEY
Then you know how to stop them, how to take back our planet?

BISHOP
Earth is contaminated. It needs complete sterilization. What worked for LV 426 will work for Earth.

VRIESS
What happened to LV 426?

BISHOP
Nuclear sterilization.

VRIESS
You can't nuke Earth.

JOHNER (muttering)
Might improve the place.

VRIESS
Ripley? You can't let him do this.

RIPLEY (remembering)
It's the only way to be sure.

Marines will return to the devastated LV-426 and find the Derelict Ship, but once more something will go horribly wrong.
