WELCOME TO MY CARIBBEAN TRIP 2-17-2001
MY TRIP STARTED OUT ON A WARM SUNNY SUNDAY AFTERNOON OF FEB 10, 2002.
WOW, WHAT AN ADVENTURE!! I REALIZED I WAS ON THE LONGEST PASSSENGER
SHIP IN THE WORLD TODAY AT 1035' 7.5". IT WAS BUILT IN FRANCE - 1960,
AS THE SS FRANCE, AND AFTER SEVERAL CHANGES AND 40 PLUS YEARS, SHE
REPRESENTS TRADITIONAL CRUISING AT ITS BEST. THIS MEANS THAT ALL YOUR
FORMAL MEALS OUR SERVED IN 2 LARGE, BEAUTIFUL DINING ROOMS - LEEWARD AND
WINDWARD, AS WELL AS THE BISTRO FINE DINING RESTAURANT. THERE ARE 2 SEATINGS
FOR DINNER AN EARLY AT 6 PM. AND A LATE SEATING AT 8:30 PM. DINNERS ARE
A CULINARY ADVENTURE WITH FOODS THAT I NEVER HAVE EATEN BEFORE. DURING
PRESIDENT'S NIGHT, I WAS EATING SOME OF OUR PAST PRESIDENTS FAVORITES
ENTREES AS WELL AS DESSERTS - PRESIDENT REGAN'S FLOATING ISLAND WAS Mmmmm
GOOD. NOW GETTING BACK TO THE TRIP, I WENT OVER 2000 MILES IN ONE WEEK AND
VISITED ST. MAARTEN, ST. THOMAS, AND GREAT STIRRUP CAY - A NORWEGIAN CRUISE
LINE ISLAND 45 MILES FROM NASSAU, BAHAMAS. THE ISLANDS WERE EXCITING TO SEE AND
CONQUER. WITH MY MIGHTY VISA CARD, SORRY NOT CAPITOL ONE, I WENT OUT LIKE A
PIRATE OF YESTERYEAR AND SCAVAGED THE TERRAIN IN SEARCH OF THAT ELUSIVE TREASURE.
YES, I WENT TREASURE HUNTING AND PURCHASED SOME FINE BOOTY ON THE ISLANDS.
WHO CAN RESIST THE TEMPTATION OF FINDING THAT JEWEL, CHARM, CAMERA, TEE SHIRT,
OR SOUVENIR. THERE ARE MANY WONDERFUL THINGS OFFERED TO SEE AND DUE ON THIS
WONDERFUL TRIP FROM SNORKELING, SCUBA DIVING, SAILING, SIGHTSEEING, BICYCLING,
AND HIKING, AS WELL AS BEING ON SOME FABULOUS BEACHES SOAKING IN SOME RAYS. THE
SHIP HAS A GREAT DIVE IN PROGRAM TO DISCOVER THE UNDER SEA ADVENTURE OF THE MANY
FISH AND INHABITANTS OF THE ISLANDS. THEY HAVE SEVERAL INSTRUCTORS TO ASSIST YOU
IN YOUR VERY FIRST DIVE AS WELL AS BEING A GUIDE FOR THE PROFESSIONAL DIVER.
THEY STRESS SAFETY AND YOUR WELL BEING SO YOU CAN HAVE THE MOST ENJOYABLE TIME
WHILE SNORKELING OR DIVING. THE SHIPS STAFF AND CREW WERE VERY CORDIAL AND POLITE
WITH MANY WONDERFUL GOOD MORNINGS, HOW ARE YOU?, AND SMILES. THEY ALWAYS WERE OF
GREAT HELP IN FINDING WHAT I NEEDED OR WHAT I MIGHT NEED. LIKE, DON'T YOU WANT
ANOTHER WONDERFUL DESSET, YOU JUST CAN'T STOP AT ONE!!! AFTER BEING TREATED IN
SUCH A LOVING MANNER, I DECIDED I NEEDED TO GO ON SOME ENERGETIC HIKES SO I WOULD
BUILD UP MY APPETITE FOR EVEN MORE, BIGGER DESSERTS. THE WALK UP TO PARADISE
POINT IN ST. THOMAS OVERLOOKING THE BAY AND THE CITY OF CHARLOTTE AMALIE WAS
BREATHTAKING. YOU, FOR THOSE THAT COUNT THEIR DESSERTS, CAN ALSO RIDE THE CABLE
CAR FOR $7.50 EITHER WAY. THE ROAD ZIG-ZAGGED BACK AND FORTH WITH SOME GRADES AT
15 TO 20 PERCENT. I PASSED SOME TOURISTS THAT WERE WALKING BAREFOOT WITH NO WATER
AND WISHED THEM THE BEST OF LUCK. ALLOW 15 TO 30 MINUTES TO WALK UP THE MOUNTAIN
SIDE, AND BRING A HAT AND PLENTY OF WATER. THERE IS A BURGER KING NEAR THE BOTTOM,
AND THAT DIET COKE COULD NOT HAVE TASTED ANY BETTER. MY OVERALL TRIP WAS JUST
FANTASTIC WITH MANY PLEASANT AND FOND MEMORIES. OOPS, I ALMOST FORGOT, IT WAS A VALENTINES WEEK CRUISE. I HOPE THIS PHOTO ALBUM PORTRAYS MY WARMEST WISHES. ENJOY!!
