Minus 21 below zero

This is a picture of the Dashboard of my 2013 Volvo Tractor trailer. It is reading minus -21 degrees Fahrenheit below zero. This is outside Zanesville, Ohio. This is not the North Pole! This is not Ice road truckers from Alaska! It is 8 a.m. not 1 a.m. I really don't want to hear about "Global Warming" anymore! This year is the first time in 100 years that it snowed in Cairo, Egypt! My 2 stroke bike is not causing global warming. There is no global warming. The Planet has cooled for the last 10 years!

Suzuki 3 cylinder 2 stroke

I found this on the internet. It has a Suzuki GSXR front end and a Suzuki SV650 rear. The Rest is all mid 70's 3 cyclinder 2 stroke Suzuki GT550. It does have a custom exhaust. The stock exhaust is very heavy,I am sure this custom exhaust is lighter and helps peak horsepower.

There are some very interesting and exciting things to report to you! Several motorcycle media outlets are reporting that Husqvarna and KTM are working on a street legal direct-injection two-stroke motorcycle. The rumors are centered around a possible 300cc Dual Sport model. The Technology is believed to be possible. The Italian company BETA also has anounced that they are now building and selling a 250cc and 300cc 2 stroke offroad dirt bike. Beta is mostly known for its line of trials machines. Hopefully the market (You!) are ready to buy them. With the bad world economy, I hope that maybe this will help bring people into motorcycle dealer showrooms.I hope to bring you more info about this soon!


Saving my 2 Stroke! 07/01/12


This is my Suzuki T 500 Titan. It has been sitting in a garage for 15 years! I have decided to try to save it. Needs lot of work!


The tank required acid treatmemt and a seal coating.


Now it is looking much better. New tires,chain,sprokets,petcock,battery. The fuel system has been cleaned and the timming set.Oil change,Sparkplugs,Airfilter,and new air filter rubber boot. Notice the head light lens is missing!


Now finnaly I have a piece of glass on the front!

WOO! There are more 2 stroke fanatics out there besides me.

I’m an older guy and still ride my 2 stroke like I’m 19 years old. One of my good riding buddies met Bob Hogan a few months ago and told me about his great trials bike history and motorcycle shop he visited. Lou Masi is his name and he’s my short fake brother that has become a huge 2 stroke fanatic as us. I live in Santa Barbara CA where I met Lou and Steve Masi 14 years ago. We would all ride the Mojave deserts together, so I miss both of them since they both moved back to Massachusetts. I understand why they moved back there since their Dad is still alive and their sister lives there as well.

So, I have never owned a 4 stroke because when I jumped on them they never felt right to me. I bought a new Bultaco Alpina in 1972 and loved the bike because it went anywhere I pointed it (like cow trails). I also had big bore 2 strokes for the wide open deserts of CA. I always wanted a bike that could do both, so I came up with a project that I am still working on to this day. I admired the Yamaha WR250Z because it said that it was as screaming fast that they compared to the fastest 2 stroke at the time (Honda CR250).

What I wanted was a bike just about as fast as my open class 2 strokes, but also the putt-putt torque of my Bultaco had for trail rides. My motorcycle mechanic buddies knew what to do. One mechanic said to get a heavy flywheel in it. Another said that that bike needs a Boyesen RAD valve to calm down the mid hit and Holley racing said that engine loves the factory Long rod kit (which did not give it any more power, but useable torque in a very wide range). Between all of the mechanics it works like no other 2 stroke I have ever ridden. Holley racing did a mild engine build because he said it did not need much because they were so strong out of the factory so I did not lose any reliability…Yet the old WR is still a first or second kick starting bike!

I wanted a WR since 1994 and bought the 1997 because they finally figured out that the blubbering carb problems were never that at all, it was the CDI the whole time. I rode the WR stock for least than a year and saw many odd things that I went after to make better than the factory did. It spit me off the bike mid hit, horrible ergonomics and stiff suspension. With all this fixed…our mutual friend, Lou, bought a new 250 Four stroke Yamaha and asked to trade when we were riding Mojave and he would not give my bike back! The next day he sold it and bought a new 2003 YZ250 2 stroke. He was converted.

What I am excited about is that Lou and you are testing the new 280 Ossa to see if it can pass emissions tests for the state of Massachusetts. Bob Hogan bought one of the first OSSAs in the country. If it does pass, then this will open up a whole new re-birth of the 2 strokes. They can run on the streets again. I live in the worst bike hating state in the Union…California where most people are liberal tree huggers that hate dirtbikers. It’s like they blames smog on 2 strokes or something and can’t see the smoke belching out of the smoke stalks in Los Angeles? Give us a break.

Just to tick off the rangers that stopped Lou and I riding the mountains behind Santa Barbara, I went down to the Department of Motor Vehicles and got CA plates on my WR! I go back up and they cannot do anything about it. My Sheriff buddies just laugh and say I can’t believe my eyes. When I ride the miles all LA to Barstow to Las Vegas dual sport ride the AMA says “that thing must be a blast to ride!” Yes it is.

It is the opposite of all those modern Dual sport bikes that think that is riding. I saw tons of bikes falling in the sand (especially the 800lb BMW adventure bikes) while I could sing thru straight as an arrow with my Scotts steering stabilizer riding 40-50 miles MPH. Easy I tell you.

I raced the fastest desert race for 3 years out in Adelanto for grins and took the hole shot once being in the second row even. I took 4th, 12th and then 4th place and I am not a racer just a trail rider. It’s the fantastic custom bike and not so much my riding ability. My bike gets the power to the ground, yet it can cruise around slow like a trials bike too. Matter of fact, I was out this past weekend at an extreme badlands type of terrain (Ballinger OHV) where a trials bike would be fun. I turned 60 in October and still love to ride fast so I ride with 40-50 year old fast trail riders and Pro racers to keep me in shape. My poor 46 year old buddy from work jump got left in the straights when he was on his 1998 400F Yamaha, let alone the tight wiggly trials type terrain where my bike really excels at. It is the ultimate all around bike that Yamaha should start to make again. I have a big corporate Yamaha buddy that I will contact first when this Ossa makes the big Japanese 4 manufacturers look silly. I should buy the 280 Ossa Enduro and make them feel badly about them pushing so hard for the 4 strokes. I know KTM will chase down the smog-less 2 stroke idea and every other manufacturer will jump back on the bandwagon. There are a lot of us that did not buy into the heavier, high maintenance, ticking time bombs they sold to folks. I never took the bait and had my son offer me his 2 year old 450s.

I cannot wait to see a clean 2 stroke. Keep up the good internet stories about 2 strokes.

i stumbled upon your page in a google search. I do see the insanity in much that the government is doing that directly affects the motorcyclist. I have a boat and want a lightweight machine that i can put on and off my boat. Of course 2 stroke is the best for this. Unfortunatly due to the epa 2 stroke 50-100cc street legal bikes are impossible to find new. And to make the situation worse for me i can not even find a 50-100cc 4 stroke japanese bike new, they just dont make them anymore. Its all chinese which i refuse to buy. Tomos sells all types of mopeds but all of them are automatic which makes them much slower than they should be. All mopeds in the usa MUST be automatic thanks to the government. In other countrys tomos sells a 50cc 4 speed manual shift that is extremly popular. Motorcyclist are sh%&^$ on in this country. I find it very odd that there are no american motorcycle brands yet (excluding harley) that make bikes although we are the most energy consuming nation on earth. Its absolutly is a conspiracy and although i didnt read your entire website it seems you too see that this government is OUT OF CONTROL and the little guy that wants to do the right thing (possibly by driving a machine that gets 100-200 miles per gallon has a terrible time doing so due to government regulations. well just thought i would let you know that your not crazy and that you are absolutly right about this tyrannical government

The 125cc two stroke Moto GP class will be replaced by the the four stroke 250cc Moto3 class in 2012. The End is here for the 2 stroke! OR IS IT? The 4 stroke is a very complex pile of parts but, it is basically a pump. Suck,Squeeze,Bang and Blow. The 2 Stroke is much more mysterious. It lives on resonances,harmonics,pressure waves and other forces. Let's Face it the reason the 4 stroke is taking over is because the rule makers have made it so the 2 stroke doesn't have a chance. With the 2 strokes there is more of a connection between your throttle hand and what happens than a four stroke. The British sports car maker Lotus has been working with direct injection 2 stroke technology. Now the evovling emmission rules may work in the 2 strokes favor. Exhaust emmissions,fuel economy,manufacturing cost,user operating costs and performance are all better with what the Lotus engineers are doing with their hottest 2 stroke designs. Their work is intended for the the automobile but, may show the way for every one. There is a old ingrained dislike of 2 strokes but the new designs are going to be hard to resist! We are talking direct injection,auto ignition,exhaust trapping valves,variable compression ratios,lower manufacturing costs, lower environmental impact (fewer parts and manufacturing processes) and better fuel economy. The 2 stroke could and should make a big comeback.

The Release of the leading climate researchers private emails has all but proven that man made global warming is a hoax! I think this computer hacker is a hero. For those of you who recieved a public school indoctrination, You may need to repeat this over and over again to yourself. "MAN MADE GLOBAL WARMING IS A HOAX." and again "MAN MADE GLOBAL WARMING IS A HOAX". Al Gore "The sex crazed Poodle" is just an opertunist getting richer selling his dumb movie and carbon credit swap schemes.
The damage has been done. Yamaha is the only Japanese company to still send a 2 stroke to the U.S.A. KTM still builds and sends 2 strokes to the U.S.A. as well. Theese bikes have been showing up at many races and doing well. The light weight of the 2 stroke design has proven to be very effective for Enduros,Extreme Endurocross,Freestyle Motorcross and tight east coast of the U.S.A. single track woods events such as GNCC races. Local 2 stroke only classes are also becoming very popular for the reasons I have mentioned before, here on this web page. The bikes are cheaper to race and easier to fix if they do have problems. In Moto GP 2 many people are wishing for the 2 strokes to comeback. The 250's were turning faster lap times than the first batch of the 600's are now doing. The forces of evil (Obama/Global Socialists) are trying to control the internet,car companies,information distribution and just about everything. I hope I do get their attention! Many websites are blocked and banned from Government computers at schools etc. A little truth is a dangerous thing! Free speech scares these people. If freedom dies in America it is gone from the face of the earth. Please get informed. Tell your neighbors and freinds. Voting is very important. Please vote for people who support freedom and the God inspired U.S. constitution. For me it is the right to choose what light bulb I want to use or maybe what 2 stroke bike to ride. LATEST NEWS! 11/11/08

KTM is pulling out of the 250cc Moto GP class. The Austrian Motorcycle maker is not going to build a 600cc 4stroke to race under the new rules. They are also ending their 250GP race efforts before the schedualed switch to the 600cc 4 strokes. They will continue to build and support the 125 Moto GP class.

ALSO KTM .... I have read in the "Save the Two Strokes" poll comments, "WE NEED SOME TWO STROKES TO RIP THE 4's ON THE TRACK" I thought I would address this! It happens all the time actually. American Nathan Kanney rode to victory on a KTM 300 XC 2 stroke at the Sugo Circuit in Japan on November 2nd. The race was the final event of the Japaneese National Cross Country Series. This is but 1 of many examples. The factories contract/hire the best riders. They expect them to race the bikes they provide. The factories are all trying to sell their new 4 stroke motocrossers. The old saying win on Sundays means sales on Monday is TRUE! Let's face it tho! For example... James Stewart is going to win Supercross and it doesen't matter if it is on a Kawasaki or a Yamaha,Suzuki,Honda etc. He would win if he rode a 2 stroke or 4 stroke. He is just the better rider. Most of the top bike brands are all pretty good! The diffrence is the talent of the rider! the factories have their best riders on the 4 strokes because that is what they want to sell to you!

The F.I.M and all of the motorcycle companies have agreed to replace the 250cc 2 stroke Moto GP class with 600cc Four strokes. Now all the motorcycle companies have to decide if they are going to compete. It is not known what KTM and Aprilla might do. This also is a problem because of the already existing 600cc Four stroke World Supersport Series. The exact specifications and rules will be discussed and established in the future. The change is schedualed to happen January 1, 2011 This information came from a FIM press release.

MORE NEWS --- 250cc Gran Prix 3 YEARS LEFT?

The 250cc 2 stroke Grand Prix class will be replaced from the year 2011 on. This is what a meeting of officials and Motorcycle company executives have decided just recently in Malaysia. What they did not decide was what would be the size of displacement of the replacement bikes. It appears it may be a 500cc twin 4 stroke or somthing based on 600cc current road based engines. KTM has said that they would be willing to produce 250cc 2stroke engines for all competitors if Honda decided to pull out of the series.

Honda stated "The world trend is that we will go four stroke." They said with the right regulations they could keep costs the same as the top two strokes.

Many people are fearfull of rising costs involved with racing. This affects track owners,promoters,racers and the public. To see what may happen in the 250 GP road racer class look at the introduction of 4 strokes to Motorcross. What has the 4 stroke brought to Motorcross? What do you make of the Large gap between the factories with huge budgets and the privateers? Motorcross bikes are now more expensive to buy,maintain,fix and race. Has this caused less bikes to show up at tracks and in races? Has this affected the quality of the racing show? Were the races more exciting when everyone rode a 2 stroke? With 3 years to go for the 250's, I hope that this issue is not settled yet.

MORE 250GP NEWS!

Some of you may be aware of the rumors of a change in the rules for the 250cc 2 stroke Grand Prix Racers. As you may know Moto GP changed from 500cc 2strokes to 990cc 4strokes in 2002. The 990cc 4strokes have now been changed to 800cc 4strokes. The rumor is that a agreement has been made that the 250's would be replaced in the year 2012 and that the replacement bikes would share the track with the 250's for a few years before the end of the 250's in 2012. The Battle seems to be between Honda and KTM. Honda has announced that they will not build any 2 stroke by the end of this year 2008. This includes race bikes. KTM and Aprillia are the big 2 stroke companies. They have both invested heavily in the current crop of 250cc race machines. Cycle News Magazine Issue #38 of 9/26/07 has a great qoute from Harald Bartol the Technical director at KTM.

"I think the 4stroke thing is a political decision basically comming from Honda, the rest of the Japaneese are following"

Bartol also said "To sort it out we need to sit down all together ... what kind of bike can we build? ... What sort of restrictions? ... around a table, it's going that way and we will have to find a way without an explosion of costs. I believe Honda is pushing the 600cc 4stroke idea, but there is no European manufacturer with an engine like this. To find a class with the same performance as a 250cc 2stroke without an increase in costs ... this is not easy. We made an agreement last year to last for 5 years. We cannot have it that a series is changed by one manufacturer. So we have done a calculation on how much a good 250 with a production run of 20 bikes would cost. This would be cheap. If Honda pulls out, then we will make more bikes. maybe in the long term it would be better to do somthing 4stroke. Aprillia would do it now" (End Qoute)

I wanted to tell all of you it is very important to future improvements in 2 stroke technology what happens in the 250cc Grand Prix class. If the 250's go away it may affect the application of Orbital style technology on all future 2 stroke bikes of any kind. Or if there will be any more 2strokes at all. Research and development money would be spent to build complex 4strokes and not on improving 2stroke engines. Orbital is an Australian Company that has a patent and systems that allow a 2stroke to run as "clean" as a 4stroke. www.orbeng.com It would be a shame not to see future advances in this "clean" 2stroke technology. 750cc AMA FlatTrack 2 stroke

In 1975, Yamaha tried to find a solution to their power deficit and fitted their dirt-tracker with the 130 horsepower engine from their TZ750 roadracer. The result was a monstrous, nearly uncontrollable machine. However, in August 1975, Roberts rode this TZ750 dirt-tracker at the famous Indy Mile dirt-track oval, winning the race ahead of Jay Springsteen and Corky Kenner. He later admitted that the TZ750 dirt-tracker, which could hit speeds of up to 240km/h on the straights, was too scary even for him. ‘They don’t pay me enough to ride that thing,’ said King Kenny, and within a few weeks, the AMA went on to ban the TZ750 engine from dirt-track racing – that was the end of the machine’s short-lived dirt-track career. The TZ750 dirt-tracker only won one race in 1975, but will still be remembered forever Today, how does Roberts remember his old steed? Says The King, ‘You had to throw it sideways to get it slowed for the corners. There weren’t a lot of riders who could throw it sideways at 240km/h.’ Amen…



AMA competition bulletin: amateur motocross class rules changes

To: AMA Off-Road Congress delegates, AMA promoters

Please be advised that the AMA Board of Directors ratified a new amateur motocross class structure for the 2008 racing season at its May 2007 meeting.

Nationally recognized amateur motocross classes for 2008 will include:

MX Lites (100cc-153cc 2-stroke/151cc-250cc 4-stroke); 125 Class (86cc-125cc 2-stroke only) Motocross (154cc-285cc 2-stroke/251cc-450cc 4-stroke); 250 Class (126cc-250cc 2-stroke only); Open (251cc-500cc 2-stroke/390cc-650cc 4-stroke). Displacements may be OEM or achieved by aftermarket modification.

The amateur motocross class structure for 2008 also includes Plus 25, Veteran 30 and Veteran 40 for riders at least 25, 30 or 40 years old, respectively, riding two- or four-stroke motorcycles with displacements of 86cc-open; and a Women's class for women riding two- or four-stroke motorcycles with displacements of 80cc-open.

The AMA amateur motocross classes for 2008 will also recognize a Pit Bike class. The specifications for the Pit Bike class are still being finalized and will be submitted for AMA Congress approval at the October meeting.

The 2008 structure for AMA Youth Classes will be the same as in 2007.

The new class structure is the result of a directive the AMA Board of Directors issued to AMA staff late last year to consult with technical experts in the field and recommend a measured approach to leveling the playing field between two- and four-stroke motorcycles in amateur motocross.

Also at the May meeting, the AMA Board of Directors ratified three rules that passed AMA Congress in 2006 for the 2007 season but were not ratified at the November 2006 Board meeting.

These additional changes to Amateur, Semi-professional & Youth Competition Rule Book take effect immediately:

Add sentence (chapter 4, section B, paragraph 3, page 14): "In addition, in Dirt Track, TT, Scrambles and Ice Race, riders changing machines must start on the penalty line on their next race." Last sentence to read (chapter 4, section B, paragraph 7 I, page 15): "and riders will be started in a procedure consistent with Pro Racing restarts." Change (chapter 5, section C, paragraph 1, page 44): "Class 6 Change age to 7-11. Delete Maximum (adjusted length) wheelbase 45 inches. Move brackets between 85cc classes and hillclimb classes 13 & 14. Place the wheel sizes below to be included with classes 13 & 14: Front Wheel Max 17 inches, Rear wheel min 12 inches, Rear Wheel Max. 16 inches. Delete Wheelbase 51 inches or less for Hillclimb."

Latest News! Sorry folks but, it is bad news. Kawasaki is no longer importing the KX125 2 stroke motorcross bike to the United States. The Honda Motor Corporation announced that they will be no longer manufacturing any 2 stroke motorcycles starting in 2007. You can still get a Kawasaki KX125 2 stroke in Canada. Anybody miss the CR500 Honda yet? This is probably a sign of what is to come from the other Motorcycle Companies. Thanks, MIKE

  • I guess I should add my two-cents. I started riding back when Honda first introduced the Cub. I worked in the motorcycle industry for many years, including bike development at American Honda and Technical Analyst for the Motorcycle Industry Council, where I served as go-between, representing the motorcycle industry in government affairs such as safety and exhhaust emissions. I have also been designing two-stroke engines for about 40 years. Anyhow, I probably know a bit more about this than the average guy. Most of what the public gets -- on this issue or any other! -- is bull. I think it is finally beginning to get through that Orbital, E-tec, and others have demonstrated that the two-stroke doesn´t have a problem with exhaust emissions. It is probably not well known that Honda built and tested their own "clean" two-stroke and published the results in an SAE paper in 1998. (I don´t have the number at this moment, but if anyone wants to order a copy from SAE, I could dig it out.) This was an excellent test because it followed the LA4 driving cycle and compared the two-stroke with one of their four-strokes. With or without a catalyst, the four-stroke had 5-times the CO emissions and 7-times the NOx emissions of the two-stroke. Immediately after this, Honda started telling all their dealers all over the world that the two-stroke was doomed. "In five years", they said, "there will be no more two-strokes". Of course, they also got all the race-rules changed to make it look like their prediction was coming true. And do you know that Rolls Royce (aircraft engines) had a secret WWII two-stroke development program? That ended when the jet became the obvious way to go for aircraft.   • I've been riding off-road for 20+ years. In that time I've only owned one 4-stroke, a '94 XR250. This bike was very quiet compared to modern 250 4-strokes. My son and I just attended the Arenacross in Albany, NY. We last attended this race in 2004 when there were still a number of 2-strokes racing in the 250 class. Whether it was the motocross-lites (250 4-strokes) or the 250/450 class (450 4-strokes), the sound was deafening. During each race my son covered his ears. IMHO the manufacturers have taken a huge step backwards. Excessive noise has been the main killer of off-road riding areas. While most of the "new generation" 4-strokes meet the mandated decibel level for exhaust noise, most riders add an aftermarket exhaust system to get that extra horsepower or two, which they will never need. In short the 4-strokes are killing our sport.

  • I think We Should Respect The Enviroment, but Modern 2-srokes, with fuel injection, and catlaylic convertors, and improved chamber ciurcluation, are very good, and for small engines are better than 4-strokes , because of simplicity, and better power to cc ratio, which is important for cc restricted vehicles such as mopeds.

  • 2 Strokes can be the future! They put out more power per cc than 4 strokes, so I believe high tech 2 strokes need to not only be in bikes, ATVs, watercraft, and snowmobiles, but also cars! A smaller displacement 2 stroke car, using the latest technology, could get better mileage than a hybrid 4 cycle or diesel. How about a 2 stroke diesel again? Or a hybrid 2 stroke diesel! (How about 40+ MPG in a Suburban powered by one of these engines!) My guess as to why no one has come out with one yet is quite simple, money. Ford recently put on hold bringing clean diesels to its SUV line, because it would add too much to the price of the vehicle. Eventually, my hope is, that it will be more cost-effective to build these engines for automotive applications in the near future. It can be done in Bombardier's Evinrude and Ski-Doo engines, it can be done anywhere! If and when it becomes cost-effective, we will see a return to motorcycle street applications. I will not rest until I see the return of vehicles like the RZ500, DT400, Honda FL400(Dune Buggy), H2750, 250R and of course the Banshee. Honda had at least been working on the technology. Whether they are actually the first to bring it to market, who knows. But it is inspiring to see the experimental bike, the Honda EXP-2 finish 5th overall at the Grand-Dakar rally, and 1st in the 2 stroke class a few years back. If the technology works, who's to say even if Hoda decides never to pursue the technology, that someone else doesn't pick up on it? We can only hope. Seeing the reemergence of 2 strokes in snowmobiles is encouraging, maybe it won't be too long before we see dirt bikes, and even street bikes with this technology. Dave S.

  • I think that the AMA started the death of 2 stroke race bikes by giving 4 strokes an unfair displacement advantage...starting with 400cc and finally ending with 450cc, a displacement that the manufacturers could use to get a performance advantage that a 2 stroke 250cc bike could not match. It is not an EPA thing since since race cars, boats and planes are not regulated. The AMA is the reason!!   • Well I don't really see how they can completly ban 2 stroke tech, cause if you look at it from my point of view loads of gardening equipment, and small vehicles in poorer countries like India where the avg income is around $500 - $1000 and the main type of transport is a moped of some kind, never mid china, japan, ect. you get the gist. Now my own view on a 4stroke is that they are not evil but should not be sold as the answer to emission control the way I see this is that motorcycle manuf. are trying to comply to a regulation of emmissions which is a moving target so they refuse to spend the money on the "clean" 2stroke because they fear that once it is designed and created the powers that be will ammend the regulation and they loose the moola. me I looooooooove my KX250 & KX500 so let me ride damn it.... 2-strokes for life!   • A little "venting" from Mark Williams: The Dakar rally has been cancelled due to Al-Queada terrorist threats on the event. The 30 year old annual event starts in Europe and ends on the eastern coastal area of Africa. It involves motorcycles, cars and trucks. The early years were mostly motorcycles. In the old days it was called "Paris to Dakar" and took almost a month to complete. It truly would seperate the men from the boys, or women from girls. I can still recall the early days when BMW was creating an "adventure" market with their boxer twins and would win against all odds. More than the machines, it was the true determination of the riders that created the victories, and the respect of us "wanabees" around the world. I recall in 1984, Gaston Rahier crashed hard less than half way through the event and snapped his collar bone in half. Using sheet metal screws and thin metal plates, they drilled pilot holes into his bones and attached thin plates to secure the two bone halves together. Periodically injecting pain killer in that area, he raced on through weeks of torture to finish 2nd overall. The little 5'4" man was a hero to me and someone I would think about when I was off the bike pushing through the swamps only 50 miles into the Blackwater 100 with the lightning and thunder crashing down, or struggling through case deep mud during a downpour in a southern Ohio enduro. The Dakar rally is run by a French organization, and as such, it doesn't surprise me that they would cave so quickly to any resistance. It has been changed, but some time ago when you googled "French war victories" it would come back "none found, did you mean French war defeats" If you are wondering why you received this, thinking, this doesn't relate to me- Well, it does.   • I have a 1972 Suzuki t250j hustler. Its my first motorcycle it has only 2000 miles on it and I love it! Besides you can modify 2 strokes to run 80% cleaner and 50% more fuel efficiant with a direct injection fitting. Google it.

  • I had a 03 crf450r and traded straight up for a 03 yz250 with no valve adjusting to have to do and loved every bit of it. All they need to do is make all new 2 strokes fuel injected and the emmissions won't be a problem anymore.

I don't think when you consider the tendancy for manufacturers of other types of vehicles to build engines of ever increasing size, that the relatively small number of Two strokes on our roads poses, or will ever pose, much of an enviromental threat. This rubbish,is purely political posturing. Don't forget that air flight is about the fastest growing mode of transport today, proportioonately, and they dump milions of litres of unburnt fuel all over our cities everyday and rarely gets a mention. But then the airlines and the financial institutions behind them have fantastic influence on government thinking (not sure about the word thinking! can that be used in the same sentence as Government?).

  • I can understand governments wanting to be seen as doing the righr thing when it comes to emissions but I'm pretty sure that the amount of polution our 2 strokes give out won't be any where near as high as the amount of polution created when a new bike is actually made. couple this with the drastically reduced polution of modern generation 2 stroke lube oil. The 2 stroke bike has a bad image as it produces visible polution, a bit like diesel motors. This isn't helped by folks running really worn out MZ's that are being lubed by old car engine oil at the wrong mix and pulling gearbox oil through the near non-existant crankshaft oil seals. I say recycle, keep old 2 strokes going.

  • I have a suzuki TS50 two smoke. A load of Castrol R40 in there, it kicks out a LOT of $^&$$%# but smells gorgeous. Mmmm especially when there's a tail wind! Two smokes are brilliant, I can't wait to get a 125 trail bike of some sort, two smoke of course! 50cc is getting a bit too slow for me =S A brilliant starter bike though =D Happy riding!   • Yep, HCCI is having good advance, and 2-stroke HCCI engines are amazing. Also, air-cooled engines like the old-school VW ones are better than the less reliable water-cooled.

  • 2010 pro series 250 2 strokes vs 250 on the table... None of the big 4 want 2 strokes in pros. They want to rid the world of two strokes and have a corner on the market with bikes that will make them more money. Upward marketing (sell fewer but for more profit and screw the poor guy who can't afford to play) is what it is called and they do not care if the average joe can afford to race or not. Wait and see what happens to the price of 4T's after 2T's are gone if you think they are expensive now! As long as they are selling fewer bikes and making more money per unit, they will be happy. In the end, selling fewer bikes costs them less overhead and cost of goods= more profit over the product lifecycle. They also realize that there will be fewer used bikes in 10 years as all the 4 strokes will be totaled by then sitting in barns with blown motors that will cost more to fix than the bike is worth. If you can’t come up with 7K to buy a new one then too bad. No more affordable 6-10 year old bikes for kids with entry level jobs on a budget to ride. MX will be a rich mans sport controlled by the big 4. If 2 strokes do not survive, things will be very different soon. The big 4 have been very outspoken against allowing 2 strokes on an even playing field or any compromise that even resembles 'fair'. They want them completely gone. They know that the 250 4 stroke can not compete with the 2 stroke at the pro level and this will blow there whole $ plan. If the 4T were so much better they would have nothing to be scared of but they have admitted that the 2T is better by being so strongly against allowing them. Honda threatened to pull out of the series as an attempt to stop it from happening. Davie has good intentions but it will not come easy if at all. The fact is 2T are lighter, faster, cheaper to maintain and no amount of marketing can change it. The all new YZ450F is 7 pounds HEAVIER than last years model. How is this good for MX when the rider is looking for the lightest machine possible to fight with for a whole moto. The big 4 will have the $50,000 to make the 450 lighter for the top pros. Will the privateers? Will YOU? A lot of "poor average joes" will be trucking around the track with a 245 pound bikes pushing through turns. It takes thousands of dollars to shave a few pounds off a bike. The 250 2T is already 19 pounds lighter than the new bad boy 450 and will always cost $140 to rebuild even after it is 10 years old. $4000 worth of titanium can't fix the 450's overweight problem and surely does not make it more affordable or easier to go fast on. The big 4 are not trying to develop more reliable, lighter, faster bikes for us to race. They are trying to build bikes that make them more money. 2 strokes go against everything they see as good for their bottom line. Anyone who thinks that the big 4 are racers trying to build the best race bikes are sadly mistaken. They are business men looking for bottom line. We need to stop being cattle and speak out for what we want and the AMA needs to stop being on the take and start looking out for what’s best for the sport. As for the 7lbs the 2010 YZF450 gained over the 09 YZ450F model weight subject: Is it a coincidence that around the same time the big 4 started making more complicated, expensive bikes that they also started getting heavier? How easy is it for the factories to spend mega bucks making a 250 pound $T (4 stroke) lighter and put the rider on the podium? EASY. Can a privateer spend $4k on titanium fasteners to shave only a few measly pounds and $20k on a motor every moto? NO. Factories gain even more control. When the big 4 have control over the sanctioning bodies, rules and who wins. GAME OVER. DING DING! More profit.

  • Ski-Doo's new etec Rotax engines are cleaner than the 4 strokes that Yamaha makes . They need to do a deal with some Bike Mfgers and get using this new technology before we are relagated to 4-strokes because they are supposed to be better.

  • I have a suzuki TS50 two smoke. A load of Castrol R40 in there, it kicks out a LOT of $^&$$%# but smells gorgeous. Mmmm especially when there's a tail wind! Two smokes are brilliant, I can't wait to get a 125 trail bike of some sort, two smoke of course! 50cc is getting a bit too slow for me =S A brilliant starter bike though =D Happy riding! They better not get banned.

As for the 2stroke road bikes I can say it was sad how they discontinued such bikes as the Suzuki GT750, RGV250 ect it was also sad to see Suzuki discontinued there 2 stroke cars like the LJ50 though in USA were you live there is only LJ10 and LJ20’s here in Australia there also LJ50’s (later model to the LJ10, 20) that weren’t imported to USA because of your tighter emission regulation that Australia is sadly following …..

    January 31,2005 I would like to thank all of you who added comments to the most recent poll question. I was starting to think that nobody had a opinion one way or the other about this very serious change to the world of motorcycling. We are now less than one year away from the implementation plan of the U.S.A. Environmental Protection Agency that will require manufacturers of motorcycles,small scooters and mopeds to meet strict new emission limits. The plan calls for even more stringent levels by 2010! New motorcycles sold in the USA beginning in 2006 must emit no more than 1.4 grams per kilometer of hydrocarbons(HC) and nitrogen oxides(NOx). Those levels are reduced to .8g/km by 2010. The EPA doesn't mandate how the motorcycle companies will do this. I am guessing we will see more electronic fuel injection,liquid cooling and catalytic converters. Carbon monoxide requirements will remain the same at 12g/km The motorcycle makers will be able to do what the automobile industry does by coming up with a "average" for their model lineup on any given year. This way a cleaner running new bike makes up for a model a company may have in its lineup that pollutes more than the average. The EPA says the new regulations will not affect the aftermarket industry. Be warned that it is already a violation of the clean air act to tamper with pollution control equipment.

    This madness is also spreading to the state level. The state of Tennessee is looking into a emission testing law mandating the testing of motorcycles. Many states may follow Tennessee's lead in this matter. This would be a way for many cash starved states to raise more revenue through their state run testing facilities. Remember what pollution control devices did for cars in mid-seventies when they were first implemented. The cars became less powerful,more expensive,harder to work on and less reliable.

    WAKE UP PEOPLE! Motorcycles comprise a extremely small percentage of the total pollution being created on this planet. Could sombody please put a catalytic converter on Mt.Saint Helens!. How about emission testing for the jet airliners our govt big wigs fly around on! Why are govt vehicals exempt from emission testing? This is about control and indirect taxation not pollution! Fight to protect motorcycling from these people who are slowly stealing our liberties. Thank you!

    Firstly, I must declare that I own shares in OE(OEC.AX) company that has product targeting your concerns. I'm not a large shareholder, but a committed one. I believe in the technology. So do the "silent ones". If you know who I'm talking about, you'll understand. "They just don't want the story to get out" I've followed this stock for nearly 5 years now, and the truth has been "white-anted" at every turn....once would be ok, but they don't want the story to get out until they are compelled to "pay for it" by using it, in the way of royalties. Increasing royalties & a new CEO have meant customers are "coughing up" for engineering services. Some solace for you, and maybe something that will get your cylinders "fired-up" and telling all your mates!!! 2 Stroke is ALIVE & KICKING!!!!!!!!! (bikes are further down!!) "Direct Injection" of 2 strokes has delivered an outstanding result over the last 5-6 years. "NO SMOKE", and the fuel injection timing is exact and fuel droplets are less than 8 micron, the event being after "all ports"are closed. Although that depends on whether you want a certain ammount of ERG back into the cylinder. Tohatsu report a potential fuel ratio of 400:1, such is the accuracy of the ECM. All calculations by the ECM are done to ensure combustion every time......and this is PR from a licensee.

    Mercurymarine makes 115hp to 250hp(6 models, soon to be 8) outboard motors that are CARB rated to meet 2004-6 emissions standards and beyond, and they are 2 strokes with Orbital's "direct injection".     Bombardier, a huge US company, use this "clean 2 stroke technology" on 2 of their jetskis and 4 pleasure-boats.............just "search", and you will find it.

    Snowmobiles need the "low weight & high power density".....as you can imagine, snow is soft, and a snowmobile can get bogged.......2 stroke has many willing "customers".

    This is where it gets interesting...... Right now , Aprilia, Peugeot and Piaggio each use Orbital's DI on some of their 50cc 2 stroke scooters.

    THE BEST PART IS!!! Fuel efficiency as good as 4 strokes can achieve!!!!!!! Emissions as good as, if not better than competing 4 strokes!!

    The results have been proven for quite some years now...........

    The next part could be.........."very interesting"..............

    Aprilia tried using Orbital's direct injection on some of their racing bikes............notably the RS250. This was back in 1998. Their riders complained that when they came out of a bend and applied the power, they got thrown, or close to it, so immediate was the power of the 2 stroke. This was reported on the web at the time because they had interviews of their racing team after the event. Any reference was deleted from their site soon after......it was an embarrasment at the time.

    Low weight, high power density, simplicity of construction, low production cost, and now competing fuel efficiency and emissions are set to propel 2 stroke back into the "spotlight". The "word" needs to be spread that 2 stroke isn't dead, and they need to listen to consumers.

    "Ucal" a carburettor supplier based in India is 25% owned by Mikuni, one of the largest motorbike carby makers and suppliers, has just agreed to use Orbital's DI and have announced a new R&D facility costing several hundred million dollars. All can be verified on the net, from press releases & company reports.

    Please post this on any message board you like.......only through word of mouth it will get out. Even the big auto companies, have worked extensively with Orbital on adapting their DI to the car market, using Orbital's "low pressure direct injection".

    Finally............to look for the signs....... It's commonly known as "LPDI", "TLDI" or Optimax in the marine sector. "Ditech" or something similar for scooters, which are gaining strong market share.

    The "ideal configuration" for any 2 or 4 stroke is for the injector to be sighted at 90 or as close to 90 degrees as possible. When this occurs, and "it has been done"(15 degrees off-set), there occurs "complete burn" which is their lowest starting point(F/E & emissions), but then they have had to deal with the structural integrity of the "head". Having to include an "extra hole for the injector is a "bummer" when it comes to structural integrity of the mass!! This has caused a major roadblock....and I mean major.....they don't like the medicine, so will delay as long as possible while they work out how it will be done. GM has come to the party, and have given a paper(available on Orbital's website).

    I could go on and on, but more importantly the "good news" needs spreading, and I can't do it alone. Please help me and many "die-hards" who are also my friends, spread the word.

    This unique fuel injection will revolutionise 2 stroke more than 4 stroke.....it levels the playing field!!!

    Suzuki GT380 3 cylinder 2 stroke

    I began riding motorcycles in the Mid 1970's. The Bikes were Japanese and 2 strokes. Suzuki,Kawasaki and Yamaha all had dirt and street machines in the 2 stroke catagory. Mike, my brother had several trail/street Suzuki TS 125's and Yamaha Dt125's that were a lot of fun and of course 2 stroke.My 1st Bike was a 1974 Suzuki Gt 380 3 cylinder 2 stroke. The 2nd was a Gt 550 3 cylinder 2 stroke. Both seemed reliable,fast and fun. I street raced other bikes in Des Moines,Iowa at the time (mid 70's)with theese machines and I always saw the 4 stroke Honda's or Harley's end up in my Mirror's. I had a ridding Buddy at the time and He had just bought a Yamaha SR500 bike. Beautiful Machine! We would ride around the Downtown loop go to Bars etc. This get's to the point-When we would stop and have a few beers at Sam's Downtown he could never get that thing fired up. With the 4 stroke single,You have to position the piston at the top of the stroke then there is the compression release and a leg numbing hard kick.Maybe the beer didn't help him,but 1 kick on my Suzuki or a push of the button and I was ready to grab gears! I would ussually have anouther beer while he kicked and cussed his new machine.I ussually had to push him to start him.Seemed to me to be a lot of work for a bike with less Horse Power than mine.I fell in Love with the the nice Mid Range power of the 2 stroke as opposed to the low end grunt of a 4 stroke.I enjoyed the sound and even the slight small puff of smoke from the back which reminded me everything was running well. I was Heartbroke when I found out that the new Clean Air Act was going to be the Demise of the 2 stroke Street Bike.I thought a few small motorcycles can't make any difference to this whole planet with it huge jet liners taking off and Factorys belching huge clouds.This is just a bunch of limp wristed Do good'rs that don't want people like me to have a good time on the bike of my choice.Didn' t they know that the 2 stroke has less moving parts and is easier for the public to work on.Didn't they know about the powerband and how much I loved the mid range power. Had they never popped a wheelie or caught air coming over a rise at 80 mph on a country road early in the morning! HOW COULD THEY DO THIS TO ME! Now they are TRYING TO DO IT AGAIN! This time the target is all 2 stroke motorcycles.The front lines are the Enduro/trail 2 strokes but they also are trying to Kill the 2 stroke Motorcrosser's and Observed trials machines which are both competition only machines.The bill has already passed,but if enough people complain the EPA can delay or kill it.Do not let this happen! Contact the American Motorcycle Association/Your local dealers and your elected public servants.Start with the EPA! We will all be sorry if this happens. I am not happy about the AMA letting 4 stroke Motorcross 250's compete with 2 stroke 125's and Open Class 4 strokes riding against 250 2 strokes.They are trying to set us up for the kill! This is a way to gradually sneak the whole thing past us! I like to imagine what the 2 stroke Street Bike would be like if the modern technology was applied to the old Machines.I do not want to be wondering what the technolgy of the future could have done for my 2 stroke KTM Motorcrosser. Even if your a 4 stroke fan you should support a persons right to be able to have a choice in the matter. Patrick Harrington
