Missie ran her hand across her forehead, but instead of the expected sweat, her hand was covered in blood. She shook her head sadly, and wiped at her forehead with a rag she carried.
She tossed the rag, now saturated with silver blood, into the garbage, and turned to look at the other members of the team. All sat around the infirmary, in different stages of illness. She paused next to Nosedive's bed, and gently touched the golden ring on her left hand to his. She lightly kissed her husband's beak, and walked to beside Tanya, who was seated before a computer monitor.
"Tanya, do you know what-" Missie began, when she was abruptly interrupted by a ringing alarm.
She spun around, and cried out in fear when she saw what was happening. She rushed to Nosedive's side, but it was too late. The devices set monitoring him read no pulse, no breathing, no signs of life. Missie screamed and reached for something, but Tanya caught her hand.
"No, Missie." She shook her head sadly. "There's nothing you can do."
Missie sobbed, and lay her head on Nosedive's still chest.

Missie stood, appearing calm and collected. She looked out at Anaheim, or at least what was left of it. Even as she watched, it seemed to fade out from before her eyes. She turned to look at the remaining team member, Duke, and sighed.
"Have you sent out the distress call?"
Duke nodded. "Did ya' find the reasons for the, well, deaths?"
Missie nodded sadly. "It's a type of Saurian virus, it allows anything it comes in contact with to loose it's molecular cohesion and disintegrate."
Duke turned to the fading sunset, smiled thinly, then wavered and fell. Missie ran forward, but even as she lifted Duke's head into her lap, he and the world around her faded out with her scream.

Missie looked up from her seat at the helm of the Arrowing as it burst into the other Anehiem, only to find a few specks of dust was all that was left.
"That's it?!?" Nosedive cried in surprise.
"What happened?" Mallory asked, shock in her voice.
Tanya sat up suddenly. "I've found something."
Missie nodded, closed her eyes, and suddenly four objects shimmered into being on the panel.
Nosedive lifted the black mask identical to the one he wore, on a chain around his neck, and the silver one like Missie's. Missie lifted the two gold rings, and slowly read the inscriptions.
"I'll always love you, Nosedive." She read from the smaller of the two, and from the second, "Our love goes on even to the end of time, Missie."
The team looked out at a world, that despite it's now non-existence, still rang with a lingering scream of loss, and a love, that did indeed pass all barriers of time, not lost, but held forever in the hearts of two beings, replicated a thousand times over in countless dimensions.
