Flag Officers Shoulder Marks


Flag officers wore gold shoulder marks on the white uniform and slate gray shoulder marks on the gray uniform. The blue uniform has cuff braid. Pin-on miniature stars were worn on the collar of the khaki shirt, similar to Marine or Army grade insignia in appearance.

The grade of Fleet Admiral was created by act of Congress December 14, 1944. The original admirals given this grade were Leahy, King and Nimitz.
