Civilians working in conjunction with U.S. naval forces wore an officer's uniform when in forward areas, in order to establish their official and noncombatant status. The insignia for this uniform is illustrated above and was worn on the left pocket of a naval officer's uniform coat or a shirt. No other insignia were worn. The badge is three and one-quarter inches square and comes in a white or blue version appropriate to the uniform.
