Scout Essentials
Medical form - be sure it has your signature this year! The
doctor's signature is good for three years.
Prescription medications with written instructions for camp
staff and Troop leaders
rain gear or poncho (very good quality: this is the scout's
most important piece of camping gear!) the $1.00 last one use.
Think about what will your son be if it rains three days
straight?
hiking boots or sturdy sneaker - they whould be worn 2-3 weeks
prior to camp. Do not send a new pair of boots or shoes to
camp!
mosquito netting (for a cot), string to tie it
personal first aid kit (with some moleskin for sore feet)
sleeping bag with ground pad
cardboard or old carpet section. etc. for metal cot: prevents
tearing your sleeping bag - scout length
pillow (optional)
insect repellant (non-aerosol): no kiddie DEET please, get the
real stuff
canteen or water bottle - 16 oz. minimum.
sunscreen - SPF 15 is sufficient unless your son has had no
sun this year
Mess kit (with knife, spoon, fork, cup and bowl) - we'll prep
one meal in camp
Swim trunks with towel packed on top - you need it for swim
sheck when you first get to camp
Scout handbook
small backpack or frame pack (a must for those taking first
year program, camping or wilderness survival or any outpost
activity)
pen, pencil, paper (a spiral notebook is ideal)
pocket knife and Totin' Chip card (new scouts will earn at
camp)
Fire'm Chit card - they can earn this at camp
flashlight with new batteries, plus extra batteries: it has to
last a whole week
spending money ($5 per day or $25 in camp, $10 for transit
meals plus merit badge costs)
Piece of plastic drop cloth for tent floor - ~10' x 10' -
prevents loss of items through the tent floor boards
compass
6 foot rope
a watch so he can get to his activities on time
handkerchiefs or personal tissues
Proper Clothing
Class A uniform
Class B Uniform (scouting type Tee shirts)- several
everyday clothes in sufficient quantity for a week (shorts,
shirts) (some scouts will change 2-3 times/day!
underwear for each day plus a few extras - send him with the
old ones, most of them will likely not come back
socks for each day plus a few extras - most of these will be
lost during the week
pajamas or sleep shirt
jacket or sweatshirt for evenings
long pants
Old sneakers for lake activity
hiking boots (not new ones)
swimming trunks or cut offs (camp does not allow Speedo
type)
Personal Hygeine
two towels and washcloth
toiletries (toothbrush, toothpaste, soap in a soap dish,
deodorant, shampoo, comb)
small roll toilet paper or small personal pack of Kleenex
Swimming, Lifesaving Merit Badge
long pants (not sweats), long sleeve button down shirt (big
sizes for flotation exercises). Dad's jeans and long shirt are
great for this requirement
Canoeing Merit Badge - long pants, long sleeve shirt, shoes
and socks, old clothes for the canoe swamp/rescue requirement Orienteering - Bring compass Bird Study - binoculars First Aid - items to make a first aid kit Fishing - license if you are 15 or older, Personal Fishing

Cope Course - Sturdy shoes and tennis shoes, bandanna or
neckerchief, durable long pants (jeans) and long sleeve shirt,
