WHAT IS MUSIC THERAPY?

Music Therapy is the prescribed use of music or a music activity under direction of a specially trained person to influence changes in mal adaptive conditions or behavior of a client thereby helping the client achieve goals.

WHY DOES MUSIC THERAPY HELP PEOPLE? Music is all around us. Music can change people's behavior. It masks noise and relaxes people in social settings, it arrouses emotion, and it is a form of entertainment. When people play music they feel succesful and gain self esteem.

WHO CAN USE MUSIC THERAPY? Music therapy is used to help many different people at schools, in special education classes, nursing homes for the elderly, group homes, hospitals, psychiatric hospitals, prisons,and even people with addiction problems. Most people think that music effects a person psychologically, but it also effects people physiologically as well. Studies show that just listening to music makes your immune system stronger and can even help you recover faster after surgery!
