Fishing permitted for children 15 and under ONLY. Swimming or wading in the lake is not permitted at any time. Do not throw rocks or sticks at ducks or anything else. Keep pets on a leash and under control at all times. Fires permitted in barbeques only (no open fires anywhere). Keep the park clean-stash your trash. Do not climb or carve on trees. Help the natural resources in the park. Protect all wildlife and vegetation. Report any violation to lake staff.


One pole per fisherman. Do not cast in the vicinity of ducks, or from any pier. Fish must be taken with hook and line, not by net, spear or hand. Snagging of fish prohibited (fish must take bait in mouth). No fish or part of fish caught in lake may be used as bait. Each angler must have his or her own stringer. If more than one angler's fish are on a stringer, all fish will be set loose. Fish may not be sold, traded or given away. All state fish and game regulations strictly enforced, especially size and limits. Do not enter the water or climb on any rocks while fishing.

"Camp Chollas"-
For boys and girls 5-12 yrs. A one week, day camp dedicated to outdoors recreation and education. Camp activities feature canoeing, fishing, hiking, nature, crafts, conservation, archery, movies, and bowling. Call 527-7683 for further information. Fishing Derbies-
Each year fishing derbies are held at Chollas Lake Park for children ages 15 and under. Ther derbies are sponsored by the San Diego County Fish and Game Association, and the Police Athletic League. Watch for the dates of these fun events. Annual Country Fair- Chollas Lake Park Annual Country Fair is held on the first Saturday in June each year. The fair is an event for the whole family, with music, games, contests, food and craft booths.



The Offices- The Buildings below the parking lot at the east end of the lake are "The Offfices" Activity registration, information,first aid, ideas, and "help" are available at "The offices."
Picnicking- There are 50 tables and 25 barbeques provided. The entire family can enjoy their outing under towering eucalyptus trees, surrounding a crystal clear lake.
Groups- Four areas have veen developed to accommodate larger numbers wishing to enjoy an outing at the lake. The Group Area, Picnic Shelter, John's Lake Vista and Youth Camping Area must be reserved in advance.
Horseshoes- Horseshoes may be checked out at the office, with a photo I.D. Card.
Jogging- Enjoy the solitude of a beautiful .8 mile course around the lake and under the trees.
Exercise Trail- For a more vigorous workout there are 18 stations spaced along the road which provide the elements of a complete exercise program. Appropriate for all ages.
Field Trips- School, church, scouts, and other youth activity groups may apply for special group use for educational and/or recreational field trips. Contact staff for application and further information.
Nature Trail- A self-guilded trail describing many animals and plants native to the San Diego area. For the entire family. Guide booklets at the office.
Volunteers- Volunteers are a very important part of our program. Qualified persons in outdoor fields such as: Fishing, Nature Study, Ecology, Nature Craft, and Camping, wishing to donate their time and share their skills should contact the Lake Director.
Recreational Council- The Chollas Lake Recreational Council meets on the 4th Tuesday of every month, at 7 p.m. at Carver Elementary School. Meetings are open to the public. Interested individuals or organizations may request voting membership.
Snakes- May be present during warm weather. Please be careful.
Fishing- While fishing is limited to children 15 and under, parents are encouraged to take an active role in teachingand helping their children.
Fish- The lake has been stocked with bass, bluegill, red-ear sunfish, and channel catfish by the California State Department of Fish and Game. The lake is also stocked with rainbow trout in the winter season.
Concessions- Light snacks and cold drinks can be purchased at the office. Duck and squirrel feed is also sold. Bait, tackle, and other picnic or fishing supplies should be purchased prior to your visit.
