Сыктывкар/Syktyvkar
Here is an areal view photo of Syktyvkar. At the forefront is Stephanovski Square. The background shows the length of Kommunisticheskaya Street.
This is the rotary at October Avenue(Октуябрский Проспект) and Kommunisticheskaya St.(Ул. Коммунистическая). Natasha's parents live in the next building on the right (not shown).
Also go for an excursion of Syktyvkar, which is made up of a collection of post cards from the 1980s.
Syktyvkar is the capital of the Komi Republic in northern Russia. Natasha was born and lived all her life here. It has a population of about 250,000. Syktyvkar is home to the Komi State Pedagogical Institute(Коми Государственный Педагогический Институт), where Natasha teaches English and the Syktyvkar State University(Сыктывкарский Государственный Университет) where her father has been a sports instructor since it opened in 1973. Those are not the only institutions of higher education in the city however! There is also Komi Science Center(Коми Научный Центр) , also located on Kommunisticheskaya Street, right across from KSPI. There are many others, but unfortunatly at this time, there are no available web sites. Unfortunately, Syktyvkar is situated 65 miles south of the main Rail-way line that streches from Moscow to Vorkuta, in the north of the Komi Repulic. This has lead to slow modernization of this capital city. Travel information can be found at Gates96 GeoSearch, but unfortunately, not much is there at this time. You might want to check out theSyktyvkar Info(Сыктывкаринфо) site too. Syktyvkar is home, also, to the Syktyvkar Forest Enterprise(Сыктывкарский Лесопромышленный Комплекс) which is located in the distrcit of Ezva, about 25 minutes north of downtown. Syktyvkar does have some religions other then Russian Orthodox, even though one might not see them. The Church of Christ from Enterprise, Alabama sent some people to Syktyvkar, and here is their story. Not far from Natasha's apartment building, there is a new baptist church that can be see from all around the city.
